The Dell G3223Q is a 32-inch 4K gaming monitor built around a Fast IPS panel and a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. It is a strong fit if you want a large, sharp display with high-refresh gaming support; its main drawback is HDR picture quality, which independent reviews have found disappointing. The 4K/144 Hz mode also depends on a compatible source device and connection, and Dell says it uses Display Stream Compression (DSC).
What the Dell G3223Q offers
Dell specifies a 3840 × 2160 native resolution and refresh rates up to 144 Hz over HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4. That combination can make games look detailed while allowing motion to appear smoother than on a standard 60 Hz display, provided the computer or console can output the selected mode. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. Dell UK specifications · Dell US specifications
Panel, brightness and color
Dell lists 400 cd/m² typical brightness, 600 cd/m² peak brightness, a typical 1000:1 contrast ratio, and coverage of 95% DCI-P3 and 99% sRGB. These figures describe the manufacturer’s specifications; they do not establish how the monitor performs in independent testing or guarantee a particular HDR experience.

Dell’s stated gray-to-gray response time depends on the selected response-time mode: 4 ms in Fast, 2 ms in Super Fast, and 1 ms in Extreme. The 1 ms figure applies only to Extreme mode, so it should not be read as a mode-independent result. Dell support guide
#1 Best Overall
- Samsung’s 32” Odyssey G5 QHD Gaming Monitor delivers brilliant visuals for exhilarating gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.
- QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) boasts incredibly detailed, pin-sharp images.
- With a wide 178° viewing angle, the IPS panel consistently delivers crisp, clear hues from various viewpoints.
- 180Hz Refresh Rate and 1ms response time (GtG) allow fast reactions for ultra-smooth gaming, plus G-Sync compatibility syncs the GPU and panel to reduce choppiness, screen lag, and image tearing.
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth.
How good is the G3223Q for gaming?
Its core appeal is the pairing of 4K detail with refresh rates up to 144 Hz. That is most useful when the source can render or output games at high frame rates while maintaining the chosen resolution. A display’s maximum refresh rate is a capability, not a promise that a game or device will run at that rate.
Before buying, check the output capabilities of your graphics card or console and the exact input you plan to use. Dell’s support guide says 4K at 144 Hz uses DSC, so the source, connection and display must support the needed mode; having an HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 port by itself does not ensure that every setup will deliver 4K/144 Hz. HDR is the main compromise
The G3223Q supports HDR, and Dell lists peak brightness of 600 cd/m², but neither an HDR label nor a brightness figure alone demonstrates convincing HDR image quality. RTINGS describes the monitor’s HDR picture quality as disappointing, and PCWorld also identifies HDR image quality as a weakness. If strong HDR is a priority, weigh those independent review findings more heavily than the branding or peak-brightness specification. RTINGS review · PCWorld review
Ports, setup and desk fit
Dell lists two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4 input, two USB-A downstream ports, one USB-B upstream port and a headphone output. The USB-A ports provide peripheral connectivity, while the USB-B upstream connection links the monitor’s USB hub to a computer. Who should buy the Dell G3223Q?
- Consider it if you want a 32-inch 4K display with a high-refresh gaming mode and your computer or console can support the resolution, refresh rate and required connection.
- Look elsewhere if excellent HDR image quality is a central requirement; independent reviews flag that as a weakness.
- Compare carefully against other 4K gaming monitors by checking resolution and refresh support, input bandwidth and DSC requirements, adaptive-sync compatibility, tested HDR performance, ergonomics, desk fit and local price.
Price and availability
Stock and price depend on region and can change. Dell’s UK product listing indicated temporary unavailability in the reviewed listing, while a US product page was available; neither status establishes availability elsewhere or a stable current price. Check Dell or local retailers for your region before deciding.
