The Dell C1422H is a compact 14-inch, 1080p USB-C monitor best suited to mobile office work—provided your laptop or phone supports USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and can supply enough power. RTINGS found crisp text and good bright-room visibility, but its small workspace, limited ergonomics and blurry motion make it a poor fit for gaming or as a roomy desktop replacement.
What the Dell C1422H offers
Dell specifies a 14-inch IPS panel with 1920 × 1080 resolution, a 60 Hz refresh rate, 300 cd/m² rated brightness and a 700:1 contrast ratio. That resolution is sharp enough for text and ordinary office applications, but the 14-inch diagonal leaves less room for side-by-side windows than a full-size desktop monitor. Dell’s Singapore product listing provides these specifications.
Brightness ratings and independent measurements are not interchangeable. Dell rates the panel at 300 cd/m²; Tom’s Hardware measured 241 nits in its review. The measured result belongs to Tom’s Hardware’s test, not to Dell’s specification or every C1422H unit. Tom’s Hardware’s review gives its assessment.
Will it work with your laptop or phone?
The C1422H has two USB-C ports that support DisplayPort 1.2 mode. Your device’s USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode video; a USB-C connector by itself does not guarantee that it can send a picture to the monitor. Dell also says normal use requires the host to provide at least 7.5 W. Check the exact device and port specifications before buying. Dell explains the requirements in its support guide and user guide.

- Find your perfect setup with a continuous tilt stand that adjusts from 10 to 90 degrees. This monitor is also VESA-mount compatible.
- Quick access buttons easily control brightness, ensuring optimal picture quality indoors and outdoors.
- Keep your monitor safe with a sleeve that has a compartment for cable storage.
- Expand your view with a FHD+ 16:10 panel. Get consistent, vibrant colours across wide viewing angles thanks to In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Before connecting: Confirm that the device’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, and check its power output if it is a phone or another low-power host.
- If the host cannot provide enough power: Use a suitable external USB-C power adapter. Dell’s support documentation explains host power requirements and connection guidance.
- If your device has only HDMI or DisplayPort: Do not assume a generic USB-C adapter will work. You need a device-compatible solution that can provide the monitor’s required USB-C video and power connection.
Can it charge your laptop?
The monitor supports up to 65 W power delivery. Dell says a 90 W or higher adapter connected to the monitor allows it to deliver a maximum of 65 W to a connected device. The 65 W ceiling may be below your laptop’s charging requirement, so check the laptop’s specifications rather than assuming the monitor can supply its full charging power. Dell’s user guide describes the adapter and power-delivery arrangement.
The C1422H has no built-in battery, according to RTINGS. It must receive power through the connected host or an external adapter; the right arrangement depends on both the host’s output and whether you also expect the monitor to pass power to a laptop. RTINGS’ review covers its power setup.

How portable is it, and how adjustable is the stand?
Dell’s Singapore listing gives the monitor a weight of 590 g and lists a sleeve and USB-C cable in the box. Dell describes tilt adjustment, but RTINGS judged the monitor’s ergonomics poor. Its compact size and low listed weight suit travel, while limited adjustment may make it harder to position comfortably at different desks. The stated weight and bundle apply to the cited Singapore listing; check local product details for the contents and warranty offered in your market. Dell Singapore’s listing identifies the regional offer, and RTINGS discusses its ergonomics.

What do independent reviews say about image quality and gaming?
RTINGS’ review, published December 16, 2021, found excellent text clarity and good visibility in bright rooms, supporting the C1422H’s role as a portable work screen. It also found the monitor mediocre for gaming because of slow response behavior and the lack of variable refresh rate (VRR) and other advanced gaming features. These are RTINGS’ test conclusions, not results from a new hands-on test. Read RTINGS’ review and methodology.
