The Intel Dell 14S DS14260 is a capable everyday and student laptop with a sturdy aluminum chassis, a useful mix of ports and unusually long battery life in one independent test. Its trade-offs matter: the reviewed OLED screen measured just 269 nits in SDR, and the integrated Intel Graphics configuration is not suited to demanding 3D work. This review covers the tested Core Ultra 7 355 version; Dell also sells a different AMD-based 14S, so check the model number and specifications before buying.
Which Dell 14S does this review cover?
Dell uses the 14S name for more than one product. The laptop reviewed here is the Intel-based DS14260. PCWorld tested a configuration with a Core Ultra 7 355 processor, 16 GB of memory, Intel Graphics, a 14-inch 1920 × 1200 OLED touchscreen and a 512 GB SSD. Dell’s U.S. listing also shows DS14260 configurations with a Core Ultra 5 322, FHD+ LCD or OLED touch displays, 16 GB of memory and 512 GB storage. Dell’s DS14260 listing is the place to confirm the options currently offered.
Do not confuse it with the AMD DS14265, which has Ryzen AI 400 processors and its own configuration choices. Nor should details from a separate Dell announcement dated September 2, 2026—such as 2.8K 120 Hz or 2K 60 Hz display options, a 1.15 kg weight and a 13.5 mm chassis—be assumed to describe the DS14260. That announcement’s model identity and U.S. retail availability were not established.
How long does the Dell 14S battery last?
Tom’s Guide measured 20 hours 41 minutes in a continuous Wi-Fi web-browsing test at 150 nits on its 2026 review unit. That is a strong result for the tested configuration and workload, not a runtime guarantee for every 14S setup or pattern of use. Tom’s Guide’s review identifies the test conditions.

Dell separately claims up to 39 hours of local FHD video playback for a Core Ultra 7 355 configuration with Intel Graphics, an FHD display, 16 GB of memory and a 1 TB SSD. Dell says this was an April 2026 lab test at 150 nits with wireless enabled. It is a manufacturer result under a different workload, so it should not be treated as a direct comparison with Tom’s Guide’s Wi-Fi browsing measurement. What is the OLED screen like?
The OLED panel delivers strong color, but brightness is its main compromise. Tom’s Guide measured 269 nits in SDR on its review unit and found that bright sunlight could overpower the display; PCWorld also noted low brightness while praising color. In a typical indoor setting the OLED’s color can be appealing, but it is a less convincing choice for a sunny room or outdoor use. If brightness matters more than OLED color, compare the listed FHD+ LCD option directly rather than assuming every 14S has the same panel.

Tom’s Guide’s review describes both a starting FHD+ non-touch LCD configuration and its OLED touch review configuration. The figures above apply to the tested OLED unit, not the LCD version.

In PCWorld’s tested Core Ultra 7 355 configuration, 16 GB of memory and an SSD support general productivity, while Tom’s Guide found the laptop suitable for heavy everyday multitasking. That makes the DS14260 a reasonable fit for browser-based work, documents, classes and routine multitasking. The Intel Graphics configuration is a weaker choice for 3D-heavy games or demanding graphics workloads: PCWorld flagged weak 3D performance, and Tom’s Guide found the laptop behind the compared MacBook Air M5 and XPS 14 in some CPU and video-encoding measures.

PCWorld describes a higher Core Ultra X7 configuration with Intel Arc graphics, more memory and more storage. Check the exact specifications and price of that version if your workload involves heavier graphics or creative applications; the reviewed Intel Graphics configuration should not be mistaken for the higher-graphics model.

PCWorld describes an all-aluminum design with good rigidity and a weight of 3.28 pounds (about 1.49 kg) and thickness of 0.61 inches (about 15.5 mm). Tom’s Guide also praised the aluminum chassis for feeling more premium. It is readily portable, though not an especially extreme thin-and-light laptop.

The Intel DS14260 listing and reviews identify two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1 and a 3.5 mm headset/audio connection. Dell also lists Wi-Fi 7 and a 70 Wh battery. Those ports make it practical to connect common peripherals and an external display without relying solely on USB-C adapters.

Dell’s May 2026 launch post said the DS14260 became available starting May 14, 2026, at a U.S. starting price of $1,269.99. At the time covered by the product listing, Dell’s U.S. page displayed a $1,399.99 configuration. These are dated launch and listing figures, not a promise of today’s price; configuration, availability and offers can change. Independent review prices likewise reflect their own review periods, not current offers. Check the live U.S. DS14260 listing and make sure its processor and display match the version you intend to buy.
Who should buy the Dell 14S?
The Intel DS14260 makes the most sense if you want a well-built laptop for everyday productivity, value a broad port selection and prioritize long battery life. The OLED version is a better fit when color matters and you mostly work indoors than when you need a very bright panel. Buyers who need strong 3D performance should look beyond the reviewed Intel Graphics configuration and verify the higher graphics model’s specifications and cost.
