Delhi has proposed redeveloping about 3,575 bus-stop shelters with route maps, digital passenger information and bus GPS-based arrival updates. The work has not been confirmed as underway: the related DTIDC tender record is marked cancelled, and a replacement tender or construction start date is not established.
What is proposed for Delhi’s bus stops?
Hindustan Times reported on October 1, 2026, that the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) plans to redevelop around 3,575 shelters. The proposal combines passenger information and safety features with shelter improvements; it is a plan, not a report of completed work. Hindustan Times
Information and safety features
- Digital passenger information and route maps, including bus numbers and routes.
- Integration with bus GPS tracking so passengers can see which bus is approaching and its expected arrival time.
- Panic alarms and LED lighting.
- Weather information displays and provisions for solar panels.
- Digital advertising panels.
The report also says a citywide survey will assess existing shelters and identify locations where additional bus queue shelters may be needed.

The stated idea is to connect information at the shelter with bus-tracking data. In practice, that would let a passenger consult a display for routes and bus numbers, then see an approaching bus and its expected arrival time. The report describes intended capabilities, not a deployed system or a demonstrated level of arrival-time accuracy.

What would the project cost and how long would work take?
Hindustan Times reports a proposed cost of ₹650 crore, including 20 years of maintenance. It also reports a six-month completion requirement after contract award. These are figures in the reported plan; the sources do not establish an awarded contract or independently confirm an official project budget. The plan envisages private participation and advertising revenue to help recover redevelopment and maintenance costs. Hindustan Times
When will redevelopment begin?
A firm start date cannot be confirmed from the available procurement information. The official Government of NCT of Delhi eTendering record for DTIDC’s RFP/01/2026-27, Tender ID 2026_DTIDC_291568_1, is for Project Management Consultancy services for redevelopment or construction of bus shelters and stops on a Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) basis across Delhi. The displayed record status includes “Tender Cancelled corrigendum document.” Delhi eTendering record
Rank #2
- Designed for model builders and collectors over the age of 1061
- Highly detailed plastic
- Scale models for use in dioramas or model railway layouts
- May require assembly
That cancellation complicates the October 1 report’s expectation that tenders would be floated the following week. The record does not establish whether a replacement tender has since been issued, so neither a current procurement schedule nor a construction date is confirmed.
Are AI features part of the confirmed shelter plan?
The report mentions AI-related ideas separately from the core shelter features. An earlier AI-enabled shelter proposal contemplated information about routes, frequency, waiting time and passenger footfall, plus an audio facility. A separate AI- and machine-learning-enabled Bus Management System was also under examination for arrival estimates, delay prediction and fleet optimization. These should be treated as separately examined proposals, not as confirmed features of the described tender. Hindustan Times
