A frightening troll has been spotted in Deadlock, but its purpose is unknown. In a first-person report published by PC Gamer on October 2, 2026, Elie Gould describes accidentally sliding into the creature while fleeing a Drifter the previous night—and getting jumpscared. The report does not establish whether the troll is an enemy or something players will be able to fight.
What happened in the encounter?
Gould says they were running from a Drifter when they accidentally slid into a troll. The sudden encounter startled them. The story describes this as a personal in-game experience, not an official explanation of what the creature is.

What is the troll doing in Deadlock?
The report does not answer that question. Gould asks what the troll is doing there, but offers no confirmed purpose, explanation of its placement, or account of how it fits into the game.

Will players have to fight it?
That remains unconfirmed. The story raises the possibility of a future fight as a question; it does not establish that the troll is a boss, an enemy, or a planned combat encounter. Treat those possibilities as speculation, not known game lore.

What does this tell us about Deadlock’s development?
PC Gamer’s Deadlock coverage page listed recent updates and, on September 30, 2026, reported Valve’s description of the game as too unfinished for public release. That is dated context from the coverage page, not confirmation of the game’s current release status or an explanation of the troll.
