DCiM Solutions acquired IIS Group in 2016. In March 2017, the combined business announced a new name: Critical Environments Group (CEG). The change was meant to signal that its work extended beyond data centers to a wider range of mission-critical facilities and systems.
When did DCiM Solutions buy IIS Group?
The acquisition took place in 2016, while the public announcement of the combined company’s CEG name came in March 2017. Those are separate milestones: DCiM Solutions bought IIS Group first, then introduced the new identity. Contemporary coverage reported the transaction and rebrand in late March 2017; a reproduced company announcement in early April said CEG planned to unveil the identity at Data Center World Global 2017 in Los Angeles. Data Center Knowledge’s March 2017 report and the reproduced company announcement describe that timeline.
Why did the combined company adopt the CEG name?
The stated reason was to represent a broader service scope than the data-center focus suggested by DCiM Solutions’ name. In 2017, CEO Mike McClain, formerly DCiM’s CEO, said the companies had worked across computer rooms, healthcare facilities, communications networks and data centers, and that the industry was no longer limited to data centers. He described the new name as a better fit for improving efficiency and reliability across different critical environments. Data Center Knowledge reported McClain’s explanation.
What did Critical Environments Group offer in 2017?
Contemporary descriptions presented CEG as a combined provider of infrastructure and operational services spanning facility design, data center infrastructure management (DCIM), and physical systems for critical facilities. The announced categories were:

The company positioned those offerings for data centers and other environments, including computer rooms, communications networks, central offices, distributed IT, and edge computing. The list reflects the company’s 2017 announcement, not a verified catalog of services available today. The reproduced announcement lists the service categories and intended environments.
What did the acquisition change for the businesses?
McClain characterized the deal as a way to broaden both companies’ offerings and client base. He also said CEG’s satellite offices reached both coasts and the southern United States, describing a wider geographic reach than either company could achieve alone. Those are qualitative statements from the company’s leadership; the contemporary coverage does not provide an acquisition price, office count, or quantified growth figure. Data Center Knowledge quoted McClain on the combined business and geographic reach.

What is known about CEG today?
The available contemporary accounts establish the 2016 acquisition and 2017 rebrand, but not CEG’s current ownership, operating status, or present-day service lineup. A July 2017 company release described CEG as a provider of data-center and critical-environment infrastructure optimization solutions; that historical description does not establish its status now. The July 2017 release is a dated snapshot, not confirmation of current operations.
