What concerns have residents raised?
Sanford Herald reporting described residents raising concerns about safety, environmental effects, and water use. Residents also reportedly spoke in opposition during public comment at an August meeting. Are commissioners taking further action?
The status is unclear from the available reports. An Oct. 1 local report said commissioners stated that the Lower Moncure Road data center would proceed under existing county development standards and that the board would take no further action. An Oct. 3 report then said a data-center discussion was on the Oct. 5 agenda.
Neither report explains whether the agenda item is informational, whether the county’s earlier position changed, or how the two statements fit together. Until the official agenda packet or county clarification is available, it would be inaccurate to describe the Oct. 5 item as an approval, rejection, hearing, or vote.
