The Dashlane Password Manager extension is not currently reported as removed from the Chrome Web Store. The reported takedown happened in February 2020 and lasted about three days. The Chrome Web Store listing was indexed with an update dated September 7, 2026, and Dashlane’s September 2026 installation guidance still sends Chrome users to that store.
What happened in 2020?
Chrome Unboxed reported on February 12, 2020, that Google had removed Dashlane’s Chrome extension over an unspecified “User Data Privacy / Use of Permissions” violation. The report said the extension returned to the store roughly three days later and that existing users were not affected by the removal. Chrome Unboxed’s February 12, 2020 report reproduced a message attributed to Dashlane senior engineer Thomas G. asking Google for more detail and reinstatement.
The report did not identify a specific policy clause, permission, or Google-required change, and it does not establish Google’s final explanation. Its quoted “3M+ users” figure belongs to the 2020 statement and should not be read as a current user count.

The Chrome Web Store listing was indexed as version 6.2637.0, updated September 7, 2026. Dashlane’s installation support page, updated September 21, 2026, continues to direct Chrome users to the store. These listings indicate that the 2020 removal is not a current general removal, although store access can vary for a particular account, region, or organization-managed device. Dashlane’s status page listed its Chrome extension and password-management services as operational during the period covered by the available status information. A service-status indicator does not rule out a local installation issue. Dashlane status
How to install Dashlane safely
- Open the Dashlane Password Manager listing in the Chrome Web Store.
- Select Add to Chrome.
- Review and confirm Chrome’s prompt to add the extension.
Dashlane’s support guidance recommends official sources. Avoid third-party extension downloads, unpacked extension files, or sideloading as workarounds; they are not the installation route described by Dashlane.

What if the listing will not install?
- On a work or school device: Ask the organization’s administrator whether its Chrome policies restrict extensions or store access. The available information does not establish the cause of any individual access failure.
- On another browser: Dashlane lists Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and compatible Chromium browsers among supported options. Use the official browser store or installation route for the browser you choose; availability may depend on the browser and device. Dashlane browser setup guide
- On a phone or tablet: Use the Dashlane app rather than looking for a browser extension.
Do not assume the Dashlane website is a general desktop-login fallback: Dashlane says direct website logins on computers ended October 1, 2025, and desktop access is through its browser extension. Dashlane guidance on logging in
