A Dart MCP client is easier to trust when readers can run a complete client/server session, pagination cannot continue forever by default, and a recurring job makes protocol behavior visible. In changes Yusuf İhsan Görgel says landed between September 15 and 22, 2026, those three guarantees came from a paired example, bounded list-all helpers, and a weekly conformance workflow. The workflow is useful as a signal, not a certification: its suite is alpha and its failures do not gate the job.

What makes an MCP client checkable?

“Checkable” here means a developer can observe behavior rather than infer it from a server-only demo or a passing build. Görgel’s September 23, 2026 account describes three practical checks: execute a client against an example server, ensure bulk listing has a finite default limit, and run conformance scenarios on a schedule. These are implementation choices in the Dart package, not requirements imposed by MCP.

The changes were recorded in pull requests #671, #682, #675, #685, #684, #673, and #677. The descriptions below reflect the author’s account, rather than independent verification of the repository or package.

How does the runnable client/server example help?

The repository already had a Streamable HTTP server example, but no paired client example. PR #671 added a client that accepts the server URL, discovers the server, lists its tools, calls greet, and displays a progress notification. The README now explains how to run both programs.

This makes the example a more complete demonstration than a server alone or a curl smoke test: it shows the sequence from connection and discovery through a tool call and notification. To reproduce the exact flow, use the repository’s own README instructions; the available account does not specify command lines or a package version.

How is MCP pagination bounded?

MCP list operations can return a cursor for another page. The new helpers follow nextCursor and stream accumulated items to the caller, so callers need not manually repeat each request. Görgel says PR #682 added these methods:

  • listAllTools
  • listAllResources
  • listAllResourceTemplates
  • listAllPrompts

The helpers default to a maximum traversal of 64 pages. Exceeding that bound throws; passing null explicitly opts into unbounded traversal. The 64-page ceiling is this package’s safety choice, not an MCP protocol limit. Existing single-page methods remain unchanged, so callers that want to manage cursors themselves can keep using them.

A finite default protects a caller from a server that keeps returning cursors indefinitely. An explicit unbounded option preserves flexibility for use cases that genuinely need full traversal, but transfers responsibility for termination to the caller. According to the author, tests cover cursor forwarding, the page bound, argument validation, and an empty page.

What does the weekly conformance job check?

PR #675 scheduled the MCP conformance suite for weekly runs, manual dispatch, and pull requests that change the package. The workflow uses an accepted-failure baseline: it makes known failures explicit and is intended to surface both newly failing scenarios and previously failing scenarios that start passing.

The suite is an alpha npm package, so the job uses continue-on-error. Results remain visible, but a failure does not block the workflow. That is a deliberate trade-off: the schedule can provide recurring feedback while the suite is immature, but a green workflow is not proof that every behavior conforms.

Görgel’s example report concerns scenarios dated July 28, 2026, not a current score. In that snapshot, every scored server scenario passed except the tasks extension. The client baseline named authentication scenarios, which the author attributed to the package not having an OAuth client. These dated results should not be read as the status of a later run.

Which protocol and contributor details changed?

Sampling content accepts either schema form

PR #685 changed sampling content handling to accept a single content block or an array, as allowed by the schema, while preserving the simpler one-block serialization form.

Media-type rejection uses a different status

PR #684 changed a server media-type rejection from HTTP 415 to HTTP 400 to match the described HeaderMismatch behavior.

Development guidance and README were corrected

PR #673 added DEVELOPING.md with schema locations, checks, formatter requirements, conformance fixtures, and changelog guidance, and corrected a stale schema pointer. PR #677 removed a README description of a server pattern that had been removed and updated the Streamable HTTP support table. These edits matter to checkability because out-of-date instructions can send contributors toward behavior the project no longer supports.

What can readers conclude from these changes?

The author’s design principle is that readers should be able to run the example, rely on a finite pagination default, and see checks recur. Those mechanisms make behavior more inspectable, but they do not establish independent validation or a permanent conformance result. As Görgel puts it, “None of this asks a reader to trust anything they cannot run, bound, or see checked on a schedule.”
