Start with Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, then play Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. For the story-bridging spin-off, play Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls after those two; then continue to Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. This release-order path is the clearest choice for a first playthrough.
Recommended Danganronpa game order
- Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc — Start here. It is the series’ first entry and introduces its killing-game setup and Class Trials. Spike Chunsoft’s series portal identifies it as the first game.
- Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair — Play second. NIS America describes it as the sequel to Trigger Happy Havoc in its announcement.
- Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls — Play after the first two if you want the connecting spin-off. NIS America’s 2015 announcement describes it as bridging the first two games. It is an action-adventure starring Komaru Naegi and Toko Fukawa, not another numbered mystery-adventure.
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony — Play after the earlier Hope’s Peak-related games. Spike Chunsoft presents V3 as a new world with a new cast on its official V3 page.
This sequence follows the original games’ release order and the publisher-described sequel and bridge relationships. It is a recommended first-play order, rather than a claim that every entry is required to understand every other one.
Do you need to play Ultra Despair Girls?
No, if you only want the numbered mainline games: you can play Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, and then V3: Killing Harmony. Ultra Despair Girls is a spin-off that connects the first two games, so include it after Goodbye Despair if you want that additional story. Its different action-adventure format also makes it distinct from the mainline mystery-adventures.

No. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is a video game. Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School is an anime, not a game in the sequence above. V3’s official page calls it a “new world of Danganronpa” and presents a new cast; the numeral in its title should not be mistaken for the anime.

Which collection includes the games?
Danganronpa Decadence is a four-game Nintendo Switch physical collection. Spike Chunsoft’s announcement says the titles are together on one physical release and names Amazon among North American retailers. The publisher also warns availability may be limited, so current stock and pricing can vary.
The four games in the collection are:
- Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition
- Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition
- Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp
Danganronpa S is a boardgame-style bonus game, not a substitute for the story entries. Ultra Despair Girls is not included in Decadence. The collection is therefore convenient if you want the three main games and bonus title on Switch, but it does not provide the connecting spin-off.
