Interest in Indian cybersecurity job postings rose sharply, but the figures do not show a matching hiring boom. Indeed data reported by Business Standard on October 7, 2026, found that clicks on SOC Analyst listings rose 225% over the latest 12 months compared with the preceding 12 months. Across the four role categories tracked, posting activity ranged from an 18% increase to an 8% decline.

What the 225% figure actually measures

The 225% increase is in clicks on SOC Analyst job postings, which Indeed treats as a measure of jobseeker interest. It is not a count of new jobs, applications, hires, or filled vacancies. Business Standard describes the comparison as the latest 12 months versus the preceding 12 months, but does not give exact dates, sample size, or detailed category definitions.

The other reported interest figures also measure clicks, not employer demand. The distinction matters: more people looking at listings does not mean employers are adding openings at the same rate.

Interest rose across four roles, while postings moved unevenly

Indeed figures reported by Business Standard show higher click-based interest for all four role categories, but posting activity was mixed:

Role category Jobseeker interest (clicks) Job postings
SOC Analyst Up 225% Down 8%
Privacy/Data Protection Up 189% Up 18%
Security Engineer Up 176% Down about 1%
Cybersecurity Analyst Up 175% Up 9%

These are changes over the two 12-month periods described in the October 7, 2026 report; the exact observation dates are not stated. The figures do not establish a uniform trend across every Indian employer, city, or experience level, and they provide no salary or seniority breakdown.

Does this mean cybersecurity is a good career in India?

The figures support a qualified answer: cybersecurity is attracting substantially more jobseeker attention in these tracked categories, but the evidence does not show that opportunities are expanding equally across them. Privacy/Data Protection had the largest reported posting increase, while SOC Analyst clicks rose most even as SOC Analyst postings fell. That gap is a reason to assess actual openings and role requirements rather than choosing a path based on the headline interest figure alone.

Rohan Sylvester, Talent Strategy Advisor at Indeed India, said: “More people are looking at cybersecurity as a career, but the opportunities aren’t growing at the same pace across every specialisation. For jobseekers, it is useful to understand the skills employers are looking for.”

Which skills appear in cybersecurity postings?

Among the skills listed in relevant cybersecurity postings in Indeed data reported by Business Standard, the most frequently appearing were:

Skill Share of relevant postings
Firewall 19.6%
ISO 27001 17.5%
SIEM 15.2%
Network Security 12%
Vulnerability Assessment 11.6%

These percentages describe how often the skills appeared in the relevant postings covered by that report; they are not a ranking of required skills for every cybersecurity job. The report does not break them down by role, location, or seniority.

Why practical experience and specialization matter

The Data Security Council of India’s Indian Cyber Security Skilling Landscape 2025–2026 reports that 63% of enterprises and 59% of providers said candidates had limited hands-on practical skills. Those findings point to a preparation gap, not a guarantee that a particular course or credential will lead to a job.

For a candidate, the practical implication is to pair familiarity with named tools and frameworks with evidence of applying them: for example, documenting a lab exercise, explaining how an alert was investigated, or describing a vulnerability assessment and its remediation priorities. Keep practice ethical and within systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

The same DSCI report says 73% of cybersecurity providers reported growing client demand for AI and GenAI security services. ISC2’s September 2026 India workforce article also describes AI as the most in-demand cybersecurity skill and a source of productivity gains. These are findings and framing from those organizations, not a forecast that every employer is hiring for AI security roles. ISC2 also notes that career-growth opportunities can drive engagement, while their absence can contribute to dissatisfaction.

How to evaluate a cybersecurity career opportunity

  • Read the actual responsibilities and required skills in current postings for the specific role, rather than treating click growth as a vacancy count.
  • Compare the role’s requirements with practical work you can demonstrate, including relevant tools, methods, or security concepts.
  • Choose a specialization based on the work and requirements you can substantiate; the reported figures do not establish which path pays more or is easiest to enter.
  • Check whether an advertised role is appropriate for your experience level. The figures reported by Business Standard do not separate entry-level from experienced positions.
