Five beeps and a black screen mean the CWWK/Topton mini PC is failing to complete startup or show video, but the beep count alone does not identify the faulty part. The available symptom video does not provide a board-specific five-beep code table. Start with power and display checks, then reseat the DDR5 SO-DIMM; leave BIOS flashing until you have confirmed the exact board and firmware.

What five beeps tell you—and what they do not

A June 5, 2023 video documents the five-beep, no-picture symptom on a CWWK/Topton N95/N100/N200/N305 quad-NIC router. It does not establish a universal CWWK beep-code meaning. Do not treat five beeps as proof that the RAM, graphics hardware, or BIOS is at fault.

The manufacturer lists this product family with an Intel N95, N100, N200, or i3-N305 option, one DDR5 SO-DIMM slot, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, and an AMI EFI BIOS. Because configurations and board revisions can differ, use the label on your own unit when checking parts or firmware.

Troubleshoot in this order

  1. Start with a minimal setup

Shut the unit down and disconnect unnecessary USB devices, storage, and network cables. Leave only the power supply, one display connection, and a keyboard attached. This reduces the chance that a peripheral or extra device is complicating startup.

  2. Check the power source and connection

Confirm that you are using the appropriate DC power source and that its connector is seated. Check that the source is stable and that the unit is receiving power. If you have a known-good, compatible power source, it can help rule out a supply problem; do not substitute one with unverified specifications.

  3. Rule out a display or handshake problem

Confirm that the monitor is connected to the output you intend to use. Try the other onboard output (HDMI or DisplayPort), a known-good cable, and another monitor. A manual mirror also recommends checking or replacing the display cable.

An OPNsense forum report describes one user getting a picture with an HDMI-to-DVI connection after HDMI-to-HDMI did not work. Treat that as a low-risk diagnostic to try if you have the necessary adapter or cable, not as a guaranteed fix.

  4. Power off and reseat the memory

Disconnect power before opening the unit. Remove and carefully reseat the DDR5 SO-DIMM, making sure it is fully secured in the slot, then reconnect power and test again. The manufacturer’s manual specifically includes checking that the memory module is correctly seated as a no-display step.

If you have access to a known-compatible replacement module, testing with it can help distinguish a seating or memory-module problem from another fault. Verify the memory requirements for your exact board before buying or installing a replacement; the product listing identifies the type as DDR5 SO-DIMM but does not establish one universal capacity or speed for every revision.

  5. Check BIOS/UEFI and the boot drive if video returns

If you can get a picture, enter the AMI BIOS/UEFI setup using the key indicated during startup, if one is shown. Check whether the boot drive is detected. The manual says to use UEFI mode because legacy boot is unsupported. A missing drive or an incorrect boot mode can prevent the operating system from starting, but it does not by itself explain why the display is blank before setup appears.

  6. Consider firmware only after identifying the exact board

Before attempting an update, record the board label or revision, the CPU option, and the current BIOS version if accessible. Find the firmware through Changwang/CWWK’s official resources and confirm that it matches the exact board. Follow the vendor’s instructions and do not interrupt power during an update.

An OPNsense forum report warns that using the wrong BIOS image or interrupting a flash can brick a board. If you cannot verify the correct image, do not guess: contact vendor technical support or ask about the listed self-service mail-in repair option.

When to stop troubleshooting at home

  • If the unit still gives no picture after testing another display path and reseating memory, avoid repeated firmware experiments. The beep count does not establish which component has failed.
  • If the board revision or compatible memory requirements are unclear, check with CWWK/Changwang support before buying parts or flashing BIOS.
  • If the machine shows BIOS setup but cannot start the operating system, check drive detection and UEFI boot configuration before treating it as the same no-display fault.

Changwang’s official site lists BIOS updates, driver downloads, technical support, and self-service mail-in repair. No failure-rate figure or prevalence estimate is established for this five-beep symptom.
