Neither Cursor nor Google Antigravity is a proven universal winner for building a startup. Cursor is the more direct choice if you want an AI coding agent centered on an editor and everyday code changes. Antigravity is the better fit if you want to coordinate multiple agents across an IDE, command center, CLI, and SDK. Those are workflow-based recommendations from the vendors’ product descriptions, not conclusions from a hands-on or controlled comparison.
How the two tools approach startup development
The key difference is the work surface each product emphasizes. Cursor frames itself as a coding agent for building software: it can help understand a codebase, plan and implement features, fix bugs, review changes, and connect with developer tools. Google describes Antigravity as an agent-first development platform built around multiple agents and several ways to work.
| Decision area | Cursor | Google Antigravity | What a startup should consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary workflow | Editor-oriented coding agent for codebase work, feature development, bug fixing, and change review. Cursor Documentation | Agent-first platform with a command center, IDE, CLI, and SDK; its product material emphasizes multiple agents and artifacts. Google Antigravity | Do developers mainly want help while editing code, or a platform for coordinating agents across different surfaces? |
| Cost and usage | Hobby is free; Individual is listed at $20/month; Teams at $40/user/month; Enterprise pricing is custom. Cursor’s usage documentation separately warns that total usage can exceed the listed plan price. Cursor pricing Cursor usage documentation | Individual access is listed at $0/month with basic weekly limits. Higher limits are available through Google AI Pro and Ultra, subject to plan and task complexity. Antigravity pricing Antigravity FAQ | Estimate likely total cost using actual models, agent frequency, number of seats, and the need for higher limits—not just the entry price. |
| Privacy and data | Cursor says AI features send prompts and relevant code context to model providers. Privacy Mode prevents code from being used for training; consult the documentation for data flows and exceptions. Cursor privacy documentation | The FAQ points users to the Terms of Service and says data collection can be disabled in Settings. That description alone does not establish identical retention, training, or contractual terms to Cursor’s. Antigravity FAQ | Review the terms for the precise plan and features, including retention, training, cloud-agent handling, and organization controls. |
| Team and organization controls | Teams and Enterprise descriptions include centralized administration and team-wide Privacy Mode; controls depend on plan. Cursor pricing Cursor privacy documentation | Google Cloud provides organization access through eligible Gemini Enterprise plans and API access described on its pricing page. Antigravity pricing | Check account management, billing, spend limits, audit needs, and eligibility before standardizing a team. |
| Setup and platforms | Cursor’s documentation describes an agent-oriented coding workflow and integrations with developer tools. Cursor Documentation | Setup documentation lists macOS, Windows, and Linux requirements, and supports projects from local folders or Git repositories, including isolated worktree mode. Antigravity setup documentation | Verify each developer’s operating system, repository arrangement, and required integrations. |
Which tool fits your startup’s workflow?
Choose Cursor if the editor is where your team works
Cursor is the more straightforward fit when developers want an AI agent integrated into a familiar, code-focused workflow: understand the existing project, make a bounded change, inspect the diff, and continue editing. Its documented integrations may also matter if your team wants the coding workflow connected to tools it already uses. Confirm that the specific integrations and controls you need are available on your intended plan.
Choose Antigravity if coordinating agents is the priority
Antigravity’s product design is aimed at teams that want an agent-first environment rather than one primary editor surface. The command center, IDE, CLI, and SDK give the workflow more than one entry point, while its product material emphasizes multiple agents and artifacts. That breadth may suit a founder who wants to delegate or coordinate work across agents and interfaces; it is not evidence that Antigravity will produce better code or faster startup outcomes.

Do not choose by the “startup builder” promise alone
Neither tool replaces product judgment, security review, or human code review. The available product documentation does not establish that either one independently improves startup success or performs better on a particular codebase. Team fit depends on the work your developers actually do and how much inspection and correction AI-generated changes require.
What the listed prices do—and do not—tell you
Cursor’s published plan prices are not a cap on total AI use. Its usage documentation estimates that people using Agent daily typically spend $60–$100 per month total, while power users working with multiple agents or automation often spend $200 or more per month total. Those figures are Cursor’s own estimates, not independent market measurements or a prediction for every startup. Cursor usage documentation
Antigravity lists individual access at $0 per month with basic weekly rate limits. Its documentation says quotas depend on the plan and task complexity, and that limits may change. A free entry tier therefore should not be read as unlimited capacity. Antigravity pricing Antigravity FAQ

Before choosing a paid tier or setting a team budget, estimate usage against the tasks you expect to delegate. Include model choices, how often agents run, whether work is parallelized or automated, and the number of team members. Recheck current prices and quota terms when deciding, because vendor plans and limits can change.

Cursor says its AI features transmit prompts and relevant code context to model providers. Its Privacy Mode prevents code from being used for training, but the documentation describes distinct data flows and exceptions; it is not accurate to reduce this to a promise that code never leaves the computer. Cursor privacy documentation
Antigravity’s FAQ says users can opt out of data collection in Settings and directs them to its Terms of Service. That FAQ statement does not, by itself, establish the same retention, training, or contractual commitments as Cursor’s Privacy Mode documentation. Review the governing terms and controls for the exact plan and features your team would use. Antigravity FAQ

Run a matched trial before standardizing
A small test using your own backlog is more useful than choosing by headline price or product positioning alone. Give both tools the same reviewable task, such as a modest feature or bug fix in a representative project.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose a bounded task. Select work with clear acceptance criteria and no sensitive data. Make sure both tools can access the same relevant code and project instructions.
- Ask each tool to plan and implement it. Keep the task and requested outcome comparable; note whether you are using an editor workflow or coordinating multiple agents.
- Inspect the plan and diff. Check whether the change matches the requirement, touches unrelated files, or needs substantial correction.
- Run your project’s checks. Use the same tests, linting, build, and other relevant checks for both outputs. Do not treat a plausible explanation as evidence that code works.
- Record effort and cost. Note the time spent prompting, correcting, reviewing, and verifying, along with usage consumed and the team seats required.
- Decide against your constraints. Weigh the result alongside privacy terms, organizational controls, operating-system support, and the workflow your developers prefer.
This trial is a decision aid, not a substitute for code review or security assessment. Keep human review and your normal project checks in place whichever tool you use.
Make the choice based on the work you need to coordinate
For a startup that wants one editor-centered coding agent for everyday implementation, Cursor is the more direct workflow fit. For a startup that prioritizes an agent-first platform with multiple agents and several development surfaces, Antigravity is the more direct fit. Neither description settles which tool will work better on your codebase; the matched trial, real usage costs, and applicable data terms should settle that for your team.
