Micron’s May 19, 2025 announcement covers two different storage products: the internal Crucial T710 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD, rated for up to 14,900 MB/s sequential reads and 13,800 MB/s sequential writes, and the portable Crucial X10 SSD, announced in capacities up to 8TB. The T710 is a high-throughput M.2 upgrade for compatible desktops and PCs; the X10 is an external drive for transporting, backing up and storing large libraries.
What Micron announced
Micron Technology introduced both drives at Computex 2025. The T710 uses Micron G9 NAND in an M.2 2280 NVMe/PCIe design. The X10 is a separate portable SSD line aimed at backups, games and photo libraries. They are not interchangeable: one installs inside a compatible computer, while the other connects externally.

Advertised performance
Micron lists maximum sequential performance of up to 14,900 MB/s read and 13,800 MB/s write. It also cites up to 2.2 million random reads and 2.3 million random writes per second. These are vendor-reported maxima, not independent test results, and actual throughput depends on the motherboard, processor, operating system, workload and cooling.
Crucial’s product flyer says its typical I/O figures were measured with CrystalDiskMark at queue depth 512, with write caching enabled and Windows 11 Core isolation disabled. Those settings help explain why a normal desktop workload may not reproduce the headline numbers.
#1 Best Overall

Capacities, endurance and warranty
| Capacity | Endurance rating |
|---|---|
| 1TB | 600 TBW |
| 2TB | 1,200 TBW |
| 4TB | 2,400 TBW |
The warranty is five years or until the published maximum total bytes written (TBW) is reached, whichever comes first.
Cooling and installation
The optional integrated heatsink is intended for desktop use. A non-heatsink T710 should be installed under a suitable motherboard heatsink or with an alternate cooler if you want optimal performance. Check that the system has a PCIe Gen5-capable M.2 slot and that the heatsink fits the motherboard and case before buying.

Crucial states that the T710 uses 8.25W versus 11.25W for the T705, describing that comparison as a 26.6% power saving. This is Crucial’s own comparison, not an independent power test.

Crucial X10: portable storage up to 8TB
Micron announced the X10 in 4TB, 6TB and 8TB capacities. The company positions it for large backups, game collections and photo libraries. It estimates that the 8TB model can hold up to 500,000 4K photos, 114 games or 2.6 million MP3 files. Those are illustrative estimates; usable counts vary with file sizes, formats and reserved space.

The announcement materials do not provide a complete X10 interface specification, so verify the connection standard and your computer’s port capabilities in the regional product listing before purchase. The practical advantage is portability and capacity, rather than a directly comparable internal Gen5 benchmark.
T710 versus X10: which type fits your use?
| Consideration | Crucial T710 | Crucial X10 |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor | Internal M.2 2280 NVMe/PCIe SSD | Portable external SSD |
| Announced capacities | 1TB, 2TB and 4TB | 4TB, 6TB and 8TB |
| Best fit | Gen5-compatible PC upgrades, demanding games and creative applications | Backups, games, photo libraries and moving large data between systems |
| Primary compatibility issue | PCIe Gen5 M.2 slot, physical clearance and adequate cooling | Compatible host port and the required cable or adapter |
| Performance evidence | Vendor sequential and random benchmark maxima | No matching benchmark figures supplied in the announcement |
How to evaluate the announcement’s speed claims
- Confirm the platform. A T710 can only reach Gen5-class results on a suitable PCIe Gen5 M.2 connection; an older slot can limit it.
- Check cooling. Use the motherboard heatsink or another compatible cooler for the non-heatsink version.
- Match the workload. Large sequential transfers are more likely to benefit from the advertised throughput than small files, application launches or mixed everyday activity.
- Separate benchmarks from experience. Micron’s figures describe controlled vendor measurements, not a guarantee for every system.
Bottom line for buyers
Choose the T710 when you are upgrading a compatible desktop or workstation and need very high internal storage throughput, accepting the need to check Gen5 support and cooling. Choose the X10 when portability, simple external access or capacity up to 8TB matters more than internal PCIe bandwidth. The announcement establishes the products’ specifications and intended roles, but it does not establish current pricing, stock, regional availability or independent real-world test results.
