CrowdStrike’s latest reported results show strong growth and cash generation, but they do not by themselves establish that CRWD stock is a buy. In its second quarter of fiscal 2027, ended July 31, 2026, the company reported 26% year-over-year revenue growth, 25% annual recurring revenue (ARR) growth, and $377.4 million in free cash flow. At the same time, its latest reviewed SEC filing said the July 2024 outage continued to have adverse business effects and that its total impact could not be reasonably quantified. Without a verified current share price or valuation, the evidence supports a case to investigate—not an unqualified buy verdict.
What happened in the CrowdStrike outage?
On July 19, 2024, CrowdStrike released a content configuration update for its Falcon sensor on Windows. The update caused system crashes on affected Windows systems. In a root-cause analysis published August 6, 2024, CrowdStrike said a template instance containing a mismatched number of inputs could crash when processed by the Content Interpreter. Its validation process did not catch the problem.
The company reported that it had responded by testing each new template instance, adding staged deployment layers and acceptance checks, and giving customers more control over when and where rapid response content updates are deployed. These are company-reported changes; they are not proof that a similar failure cannot happen again. In its analysis, CrowdStrike wrote, “We apologize unreservedly.”
What makes a case for buying CRWD?
The strongest positive evidence in the latest earnings release is the scale and breadth of reported operating growth. CrowdStrike’s August 26, 2026 release for Q2 FY2027 reported $1.47 billion in revenue, up 26% year over year, and $5.84 billion in ARR, up 25% year over year. ARR is the annualized value of recurring subscriptions, so it offers a view of the subscription base rather than a direct measure of quarterly revenue.
#1 Best Overall
The company reported $332.8 million in net new ARR for the quarter, describing it as a record $333 million and reporting 51% year-over-year growth. It also said it raised its FY2027 net-new-ARR growth outlook by 630 basis points, to 34% at the midpoint. These figures suggest that customer additions and subscription expansion were strong in that quarter; they do not guarantee that the pace will continue.
Cash generation and the change in reported GAAP earnings add to the positive operating picture. For Q2 FY2027, CrowdStrike reported $530.3 million in cash generated from operations and $377.4 million in free cash flow. GAAP net income attributable to CrowdStrike was $5.3 million, compared with a $70.2 million loss in the year-ago quarter. Investors should distinguish that modest GAAP profit from the much larger cash-flow figures: they measure different things.

CEO George Kurtz called the period “the best quarter in CrowdStrike’s history” in the earnings release. CFO Burt Podbere pointed to record net new ARR, new-logo ARR, retention rates, and cash flow. Those are management’s characterizations of the quarter, not independent assessments. Kurtz also described securing AI as a major market opportunity; that is the company’s strategic view, not proof of a particular market size or future return for shareholders.

What risks remain from the outage?
CrowdStrike’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026, continued to warn that the July 19, 2024 incident had adversely affected results and could affect key metrics and results in future periods. The filing said the precise impact was not reasonably quantifiable. That disclosure matters because a strong quarter does not establish that the incident’s commercial or financial effects are over.
Rank #3
The filing described legal proceedings and continuing legal and professional costs related to the incident. It also said CrowdStrike had experienced delayed sales opportunities and longer sales cycles. To address customer concerns, the company used commitment packages that could include discounts, additional modules, professional services, flexible payment terms, or subscription extensions. Such concessions may support customer relationships, but they can also affect expansion economics and when revenue is recognized.
The company disclosed further risks: customers could defer or cancel purchases, fail to renew, or reduce spending; partners could become less willing to promote its products; and competitors could take advantage of the incident. CrowdStrike also said insurance might not cover all costs or claims. These are risks described in the filing, not statements that each outcome will occur.

The same filing said CrowdStrike was investing in resiliency, testing, and customer controls, while cautioning that it could not guarantee those enhancements would be effective or that its products would be free of defects. The practical question for investors is not simply whether the company introduced safeguards, but whether customer behavior and operating results show that trust and sales execution are recovering without unsustainably large concessions.

No operating result settles whether a stock is attractively priced. The available figures make a case that CrowdStrike’s business had momentum in Q2 FY2027, but the evidence here does not establish a current share price or valuation multiple. Without those, it is not possible to judge what growth investors are already paying for or to compare the shares fairly with alternatives.
Best Value
A fuller investment decision would test the growth against the price using consistent measures, such as forward sales, earnings, or cash flow. It would also compare revenue and ARR growth, retention and new-customer contribution, GAAP profitability and free cash flow, and each company’s outage-related legal and commercial exposure. No peer comparison or current valuation multiple is established here, so a claim that CRWD is cheap, expensive, or a better buy than another stock would go beyond the evidence.
What should investors watch next?
To evaluate whether the positive case is strengthening or weakening, track the next earnings reports and filings for evidence on several fronts:
- ARR and net new ARR: Check whether growth continues and whether new customer additions and existing-customer expansion both contribute.
- Retention and customer concessions: Look for reported retention trends and signs that discounts, extra modules, services, or flexible terms are affecting expansion.
- Sales execution: Watch for updates on delayed opportunities, sales-cycle length, renewals, and customer demand.
- Profitability and cash: Compare GAAP earnings with operating cash flow and free cash flow over time rather than treating a single quarter as a trend.
- Incident exposure: Read new SEC filings for changes in legal costs, customer impacts, insurance coverage, and the company’s assessment of continuing effects.
- Valuation at the time of a decision: Use a current share price and consistently calculated forward financial measures; historical commentary about valuation cannot substitute for current figures.
These checks help separate the company’s operating trajectory from the stock’s investment merits. The first can look strong while the second remains uncertain until price and valuation are assessed.
