In Creatures of Sonaria, the in-game Tier 1–5 labels describe creature size; they are not an official weakest-to-strongest scale. Strength rankings such as SS to C are fan-made and depend on the stats, scoring method, and gameplay goal chosen. This guide separates those meanings and explains what the available all-creature ranking does—and does not—show.
What do the tiers mean in Creatures of Sonaria?
The game’s Tier 1–5 classification is primarily a size distinction. The community wiki says size is sometimes proportional to damage and health, and that tier also helps determine the price of a stored creature. It does not define a universal combat order: a larger creature is not automatically better in every situation.
Combat performance can also depend on damage, health, mobility, stamina, abilities, and what you need the creature to do. A Tier 5 label alone cannot tell you which creature will be the best choice.

No—not by definition. Tier 5 identifies the largest size category, not an official strength rating. A smaller creature may suit a particular fight, journey, or survival situation better, depending on its stats and the conditions. Treat size as one comparison point rather than a verdict.

How many creatures are in each tier?
The sources available here do not provide a reliable, synchronized count for every in-game size tier, so this guide does not estimate those totals. The community stats list, marked updated September 28, 2026, offers sortable Recode and Legacy tables with creature names, tiers, and diets. You can inspect the relevant ruleset and sort by its tier column on the community stats list.
Keep that page’s September 28 update date distinct from the all-creature ranking below: that ranking reports 481 released creatures using a stat-table revision dated September 4, 2026. The 481 figure is that ranking’s dated count, not a guaranteed count for September 28, 2026, or a later date. Roster and balance data can change.

All-creature strength ranking: what the available list says
There is no official all-creature combat ranking established by the sources cited here. The following results are outputs of a fan-made ranking, not developer-endorsed standings. Its publisher reports these top scores from its September 4, 2026 data revision:

How is the fan ranking calculated?
The ranking combines three stats into a weighted score, normalizing each stat against the highest value in its dataset. Its stated weights are:
- Bite damage per second: 45%
- Health: 35%
- Sprint speed: 20%
This method makes the list useful for a particular stat-comparison question, but the weights reflect the publisher’s choices. A list that gave more weight to abilities, stamina, or another stat could produce different placements. The ranking is a fan-made model, not an official game formula.

Which tier should a new player pick?
Start with the activity you want to do, then compare creatures on the traits that matter for it. Choosing the largest size tier just because it sounds strongest can be a poor fit if your priority is travel, solo survival, or a specific group role.

- Solo survival: Consider the demands of surviving and finding food and water, not just a creature’s size.
- Travel: Compare mobility and stamina alongside the route and biome you expect to use.
- Group play: Consider how the creature fits your group’s size and role.
Growth stage, biome, food and water access, and group size can change how useful a creature is in practice. Role-based rankings therefore answer a different question from a single stat score, and no one tier is the universal recommendation for new players.

Why do tier lists disagree?
They may be ranking different things. One list may use an explicit stat formula like the 45% damage, 35% health, and 20% sprint-speed model above; another may judge practical roles or a particular gameplay goal. Different weights, criteria, conditions, and data dates can all change the order. A disagreement between lists does not make either one an official ranking.
Before relying on a list, check who published it, which Recode or Legacy data it uses, when its stats were revised, and what its criteria reward. The community stats page identifies separate Recode and Legacy tables, so rankings should name the ruleset rather than silently mixing them.
