There is no single, universally accepted “creator economy size” for 2026. The answer depends on whether you mean brand advertising, creator-partnership revenue, creator employment or a broad global market forecast. The most comparable current figures show rapid growth: the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) forecasts $43.9 billion in U.S. creator advertising for 2026, IAB UK forecasts £1.217 billion in UK creator-partnership revenue, and IAB counts more than 1.5 million U.S. full-time-equivalent digital creators. These figures measure different things and must not be added together.
How big is the creator economy in 2026?
It depends on the boundary used. Advertising and partnership figures measure money brands direct to creators. Employment figures count work. Total-addressable-market (TAM) estimates attempt to include a much wider set of creator-related transactions. Geography and timing also matter: some numbers are historical estimates, some are forecasts, and survey percentages describe respondents rather than the whole workforce.
| Measure | 2026 figure or latest estimate | Geography and status | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator advertising | $43.9 billion | U.S.; IAB forecast | Selected direct brand partnerships, sponsored-content amplification and planned creator-related advertising adjacencies |
| Creator-partnership revenue | £1.217 billion | UK; IAB UK forecast | Campaign production, distribution and digital rights for campaigns targeting UK consumers |
| Creator employment | More than 1.5 million full-time-equivalent workers | U.S.; IAB 2025 estimate | People working full-time-equivalent as digital creators, not everyone who posts online |
| Global creator-economy TAM | $480 billion projected by 2027 | Global; Goldman Sachs Research, April 2023 projection | A broad market outlook spanning multiple creator income and platform opportunities |
Because the definitions differ, the U.S. and UK figures are not rival estimates of one market, and neither should be combined with Goldman Sachs’ global projection.

U.S. creator advertising
IAB’s 2025 Creator Economy Ad Spend & Strategy Report estimates that U.S. creator ad spending increased from $13.9 billion in 2021 to $29.5 billion in 2024. It forecasts $37.1 billion for 2025 and $43.9 billion for 2026. The 2025 and 2026 values are forecasts, not settled spending totals.
#1 Best Overall
IAB’s advertising scope covers direct brand partnerships for sponsored content, amplification of those partnerships and planned adjacencies around creators. It does not represent every dollar earned through subscriptions, tips, merchandise, events or other audience payments. IAB CEO David Cohen said, “The creator economy has clearly become a major factor in the digital growth story, driving spend, engagement, culture, and of course, employment,” according to the report.
UK creator partnerships
IAB UK’s September 2026 announcement puts UK creator-partnership revenue at £966 million in 2025 and forecasts £1.217 billion in 2026. The measure covers campaign production, distribution and digital rights for campaigns aimed at UK consumers. It excludes subscriptions, events, product sales, adjacent advertising and paid amplification.
That narrower boundary explains why the UK number cannot be compared directly with the U.S. advertising forecast. Connie Hawker, IAB UK’s TV+ and Creator Lead, said, “Creators are an increasingly important part of the advertising ecosystem, but until now we haven’t had a clear picture of the size of the UK market.”

How many people work as digital creators?
IAB’s 2025 digital-economy research estimates that more than 1.5 million Americans work full-time-equivalent as digital creators, nearly eight times the 2020 level. This is an employment estimate expressed in full-time equivalents. It is not a headcount of every person who publishes videos, posts or newsletters, and it should not be read as the number of people earning a living wage from content.
How are creators using AI?
Adobe and The Harris Poll surveyed more than 16,000 creators across eight countries in May 2026. Adobe defines the surveyed group as emerging and professional social-first creators who publish digital content several times a month to inform, entertain or engage an audience and generate income across digital platforms. The results are self-reported perceptions, not a causal experiment.

Reported growth and workflow adoption
- 87% of respondents who use or have tried creative AI said it accelerated business or follower-base growth.
- 75% said creative AI was integrated or essential to their work.
Human review remains central
- 57% said AI outputs typically require moderate or extensive editing before sharing.
- 81% said human judgment remains essential to creative taste.
- 85% said the final creative decision should remain with the creator.
These responses indicate adoption alongside continued human control, not that AI independently produces publish-ready work. Mike Polner, Adobe’s vice president and head of product marketing for creators, said, “Adobe’s latest Creators’ Toolkit Report shows creative AI is opening new opportunities for creators and transforming how creative work gets done, but voice, taste and judgment remain what set great creators apart.”
How do creators make money?
Creator revenue usually comes from several channels rather than one salary. Goldman Sachs Research’s April 2023 analysis identifies:
- Direct brand deals and sponsored campaigns
- A share of platform advertising revenue
- Subscriptions and memberships
- Donations, tips and other direct audience payments
- Merchandise, commerce and related products
Goldman Sachs said brand deals contributed about 70% in the survey data it cited; that is not a universal 2026 split. The analysis also estimated that about 4% of global creators earned more than $100,000 annually. A growing market therefore does not imply that typical individual creator income is high or evenly distributed.
What does the global creator-economy forecast mean?
Goldman Sachs Research estimated the global creator economy at $250 billion at the time of its April 2023 analysis and projected $480 billion by 2027. This is a broad TAM outlook, not a measured 2026 total, a forecast of creator wages or a count of active creators. It spans multiple income routes and platform opportunities, so it should be read separately from IAB’s advertising and employment measures.
Best Value
The report also described a possible “flight to quality,” in which platforms with stability, scale and monetization potential attract creators. That is an investment and platform-dynamics interpretation, not evidence that every creator will move to a larger service.

For brands
- Treat creator budgets as a distinct advertising line, then define whether measurement includes production, distribution, rights or amplification.
- Compare performance within the same country and accounting boundary; do not benchmark a U.S. ad-spend forecast against the UK partnership estimate as if they were equivalent.
For creators
- Build a mix of brand work and direct audience revenue rather than relying on one platform payout.
- Use AI for speed where it helps, but retain review, disclosure and final editorial control.
- Remember that market-level growth does not predict an individual income level; the Goldman Sachs estimate places high annual earnings with a small minority of creators.
For analysts
- Label every number by geography, publisher, date, measure and forecast status.
- Do not add advertising, partnership revenue, employment and TAM figures into one headline total.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the $43.9 billion U.S. and £1.217 billion UK figures directly comparable?
No. The IAB U.S. figure is a forecast for selected creator advertising, while IAB UK’s figure is a forecast for UK creator-partnership revenue with different inclusions and exclusions.
Does 1.5 million mean there are only 1.5 million U.S. creators?
No. It is an estimate of full-time-equivalent digital-creator employment, not a count of everyone who publishes online.
Does the $480 billion forecast represent creator income?
No. Goldman Sachs’ April 2023 figure is a broad global total-addressable-market projection for 2027, not a wage forecast or typical creator earnings.
The Bottom Line
The clearest 2026 picture is strong growth within distinct measurement boundaries: U.S. creator advertising is forecast at $43.9 billion, UK creator partnerships at £1.217 billion, and U.S. full-time-equivalent creator employment exceeds 1.5 million. AI is becoming routine in surveyed workflows, but creators still report that human judgment and final creative control matter.
