To create a video from text, first decide whether you need a presenter or narration to deliver a script, or a generated visual clip based on a prompt. Then prepare text for that format, generate a draft in a suitable tool, review the result, revise it, and export it. The right workflow depends on whether exact wording, visual direction, or editing and export controls matter most.
Choose the kind of video you want
“Text-to-video” describes two different jobs. A presenter-led or narrated video turns a script into spoken delivery, often with captions, B-roll, or branded visuals. A prompt-generated clip creates visual footage from a description, with controls that may include camera movement, framing, style, and aspect ratio. These approaches are not interchangeable: choose based on what viewers need to see and hear.
- Choose a script-led workflow for explainers, training, or announcements where spoken words carry the message.
- Choose prompt-generated clips for visual scenes, concepts, or short sequences where the imagery is the main point.
How do I turn a script into a video?
For a presenter-led video, use a service that accepts a script or prompt, lets you select a presenter and voice, and provides a way to customize visuals. HeyGen describes a workflow of adding a prompt, brief, or script; choosing a presenter and voice; customizing elements such as captions, B-roll, branding, music, and animation; and generating and exporting the video. Before generating, decide which parts of the script must remain exact. Check how the tool handles punctuation, pauses, names, and pronunciation, then review the generated video with sound on and captions visible. HeyGen describes its presenter, voice, and caption/localization features as supporting more than 177 languages; this is a vendor-stated specification, so confirm current availability and limits on the product page.

Should the tool preserve my wording or write a script?
These are separate workflows. Importing a finished script is the better fit when wording has been approved or must stay faithful to a source. Prompting a tool to write a script can be faster for a first draft, but the result is newly generated copy and needs editorial review.
Synthesia documents three relevant starting points: use a prompt to generate a script and visuals, import an existing script for word-for-word use, or upload a file as source material for a newly written script. Its documentation says file-based script generation does not preserve the source wording or structure. It also lists PowerPoint conversion, templates, and a blank canvas as other ways to start. The documentation says prompt, script, and file import require a paid plan, while some other paths are available on free plans; check current plan terms before choosing a workflow. Can I make a video from a prompt?
Yes. Prompt-generated video is designed for describing a scene rather than supplying a complete spoken script. Adobe Firefly’s documented workflow is to open Generate video, select a model, enter a text prompt, and choose the available settings. Depending on the model, settings can include resolution, aspect ratio, reference composition, camera movement and framing, style, and seed. Controls differ by model. Write a prompt with visible details and motion
Describe what should appear, where it is, the mood or visual style, and what happens during the shot. Include camera direction when it matters—for example, whether the camera should move closer, pan, or hold a wide view. Specify the intended aspect ratio if the workflow offers that control. These details help direct a draft; they do not guarantee a particular result.
Can I turn a PowerPoint or document into a video?
A presentation or document can be a starting point, but the result depends on how the tool uses the source. Synthesia lists PowerPoint conversion as a creation path. Its separate file-import path uses the file as source material to write a new script, rather than preserving the original wording and structure. - Content: Verify names, facts, sequence, and any required wording against the approved source.
- Speech and captions: Listen for pronunciation, pacing, and awkward pauses; check captions for errors and readability.
- Visuals: Look for mismatches between narration and imagery, distracting details, or shots that do not fit the prompt.
- Format: Confirm that aspect ratio, resolution, and export format suit the destination.

Check plan limits and commercial-use terms
Free-plan access, paid features, export options, and usage rights can differ by product and model. Adobe says commercial-use eligibility depends on the model, and partner models may have different terms. HeyGen says videos on paid plans are licensed for commercial use. Is Sora still available?
