Cranbrook Institute of Science’s ninth annual Women Rock Science fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. The women-led event celebrates women in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), while raising support for educational programs for Michigan students.
What to expect at Women Rock Science 2026

Who is being honored
Three women are being recognized for STEAM leadership: Kim Kocsis, Amy Peterson and Rhonda Walker. Kocsis, MiSTEM region director at Oakland Schools, will receive the Outstanding Educator Award. The award categories for Peterson and Walker have not been specified in the available event announcement.

Where the fundraiser proceeds go
Women Rock Science supports expanded STEAM programming for Pre-K–12 students in underserved Michigan communities, including Detroit, Pontiac, Flint and Southfield. Proceeds also support She LEADS STEAM Camp, a free program for girls in grades 7–9.
Cranbrook says the fundraiser has generated more than $1.9 million, funding more than 7,900 outreach programs that reached more than 267,000 Michigan students. The 2025 event raised more than $333,000, surpassing its goal. These are cumulative and prior-year figures, not a target or result for the 2026 event.

Women Rock Science pairs recognition of women’s leadership with hands-on public engagement and education funding. Event co-chair Yesenia Venegas has described its aim as showing that there are many pathways into science; that is a paraphrase of the reported message, not a direct quotation.
