Cox residential internet is moving under the Spectrum brand in former Cox markets, so new customers may now see Spectrum plans and pricing instead. Charter completed its Cox transaction on August 20, 2026, and said on September 16 that former Cox customers could access Spectrum products, packaging, and pricing. Charter says existing customers may keep their current Cox plans, prices, and products. That distinction matters: the Cox name remains relevant to many current customers, but the offer available to a new customer depends on their address and the transition status of that market.
What is changing for Cox internet customers?
Charter announced that it completed its transaction with Cox Communications on August 20, 2026. Its announcement said Spectrum branding, pricing, and packaging would launch in former Cox markets in mid-September; on September 16, Charter said former Cox customers could access Spectrum products, packaging, and pricing. Charter’s FAQ says existing customers may keep their current plans, pricing, and products. Check Charter’s transaction announcement and Cox FAQ for the company’s statements.
Charter President and CEO Chris Winfrey called the change “one that can be celebrated by customers, employees and investors alike” in Charter’s August 20 announcement. That is a corporate statement about the transaction, not evidence of internet performance or a guarantee that a particular customer will receive a lower price.

Use Cox’s internet plans page and address checker to see the offer currently available at your home. Before ordering, read the checkout disclosures for the promotional period, post-promotion rate, taxes, surcharges, equipment charges, usage-based charges, other fees, and any eligibility or term requirements. Cox says these costs and offers can vary by location, account features, discounts, and term agreements; not every service is available everywhere. Its prices exclude taxes, surcharges, certain equipment, usage-based charges, and other fees.
How fast is Cox internet?
The advertised speeds are maximums, not guaranteed in-home results. Cox says actual performance can vary with equipment, environmental and structural conditions inside the home, the number of users, and the service area. When comparing plans, treat download and upload speeds as separate figures: a download maximum alone does not establish the upload performance you will receive. Cox’s internet information describes its speed tiers and terms.

Is Cox internet fiber?
Cox describes its network as fiber-powered, but that does not mean every home has fiber running directly to it. Cox says fiber reaches a neighborhood node, with most homes connected from there by coaxial cable. In select areas, Cox Fiber brings fiber directly to the home. Cox advertises speeds up to 2 Gbps where available; use an address check to find out whether a specific tier or fiber-to-the-home connection is offered at your residence. The provider’s network and plan details describe this distinction.
Does Cox internet have a data limit or overage charges?
Cox residential materials state that plans include a monthly allowance of 1.25 TB (1,280 GB). Cox says additional data options are available; excess usage is charged in 50 GB blocks at $10 per block, up to a maximum overage charge of $100 per month. Unused data does not roll over. Because data options and prices can change, confirm the allowance and applicable charges in the current plan disclosure before ordering. See Cox’s data usage information.

Will you need new internet equipment?
Cable internet
Cox says cable customers need a Cox-approved DOCSIS 3.0-or-higher modem that is compatible with their subscribed speed tier. You can provide your own approved modem, but check Cox’s current compatibility list before buying; compatibility depends on the plan. A general search for a Cox-compatible cable modem is a starting point, not a substitute for confirming the exact model and tier.
Cox Fiber
For Cox Fiber service, Cox installs an optical network terminal (ONT), which functions as the modem. You still need a router or gateway to distribute the connection around your home. A cable modem is not the equipment to buy for a fiber-to-the-home installation. Cox explains equipment requirements in its approved cable modem information.
