The Coway Airmega Mighty2 (AP-1512N) is a strong mid-range choice if you want capable cleaning at relatively quiet settings, but its advertised 1,800-square-foot coverage needs context: Coway specifies that figure at just one air change per hour. RTINGS recommends smaller rooms—about 257 square feet at a setting no louder than 45 dBA, or 370 square feet at maximum speed. It has automatic sensor control and several operating modes, but no app or remote, and its replacement filter is a recurring cost.
What the Coway Airmega Mighty2 offers
The AP-1512N is a three-stage air purifier with a washable pre-filter and a combined Max2 activated-carbon and HEPA filter. Coway lists its Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) as 240 for smoke, 242 for dust, and 249 for pollen. CADR figures are useful for comparing particle-cleaning performance, but they do not mean every room-size rating uses the same air-change target.
Coway lists Smart/Auto, Sleep, Eco, and Turbo modes. Its MegaScan sensor provides numerical PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 readings and can drive automatic operation. The manufacturer lists a 19–50 dB noise range, 56 W power consumption, and dimensions of 16.9 × 17.9 × 9.3 inches; the unit weighs 15.2 pounds. These are Coway-published specifications on its official product page.

How large a room can it clean?
The answer depends on the cleaning rate you need and the fan speed you can tolerate. Coway’s product page gives a maximum coverage figure of 1,800 square feet at one air change per hour. That is a low turnover target, not an equivalent to a room recommendation based on more frequent air cleaning.

RTINGS’ independent testing offers a different basis for sizing the purifier. Its recommendations and measurements are best treated as practical estimates, not guarantees for every room or home:

The figures come from RTINGS’ review; Coway’s 1,800-square-foot figure and RTINGS’ recommendations use different methods and should not be blended into one rating. If you need frequent air turnover, use the independent recommendation that matches your preferred noise level rather than relying on the one-air-change figure. RTINGS considers the Mighty2 suited to medium rooms and says very large open-concept areas can challenge it.

Is the Mighty2 quiet?
RTINGS measured 31.1 dBA at the lowest fan speed and 57.2 dBA at the highest. It describes the Mighty2 as very quiet relative to its predecessor. The low-noise performance has a trade-off: RTINGS’ room recommendation falls to about 257 square feet at a setting no louder than 45 dBA, compared with about 370 square feet at maximum speed. These are RTINGS test results, not manufacturer specifications, and actual perception depends on placement and room conditions.
Coway says Sleep mode operates as low as 19 dB. That is a manufacturer figure and is not directly interchangeable with RTINGS’ measurements, which were taken under its own testing conditions.

Controls, automatic operation, and smart features
The purifier can adjust its fan based on its air-quality sensor, and RTINGS reports that an ambient-light response dims the controls and moves the unit toward quieter operation in darkness. It also has Sleep, Eco, and Turbo modes in addition to Smart/Auto.
RTINGS reports that the AP-1512N has no companion app and no remote control, so settings are managed on the unit itself. Coway also claims 20% less energy consumption than the previous model; that comparison is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result in the sources cited here. Filter replacement and upkeep
The pre-filter is washable and removable by sliding it out from the right side, according to Coway. The combined Max2 filter is a consumable: Coway says the AP-1512N filter set lasts up to 12 months, while RTINGS gives a six-to-12-month replacement interval. Use the unit’s filter indicator and manual, since real life depends on operating conditions and use.
Check that any replacement listing explicitly names the AP-1512N. Coway’s support article about AP-1512HH/200M filters addresses that older model family and does not establish compatibility with the Mighty2. Do not assume those filters fit based on the similar model numbers; see the AP-1512HH/200M support article for its stated scope.

Size and practical trade-offs
The Mighty2 measures 16.9 × 17.9 × 9.3 inches and weighs 15.2 pounds, so it needs a dedicated floor or shelf position. RTINGS says its footprint is too large for most nightstands or tables. Plan for both the physical space and room around the unit for unobstructed airflow.
- Good fit: You want sensor-driven automatic operation, a washable pre-filter, and quiet cleaning for a medium-sized room.
- Less suitable: You need app or remote control, have very limited placement space, or want to use the broad 1,800-square-foot figure as though it represented frequent air turnover.
- Budget for upkeep: The filter set is expected to need replacement, with stated intervals ranging from six to 12 months depending on the source and use.
How it compares with common alternatives
RTINGS’ comparison points to different priorities rather than a universal winner. It characterizes the Winix C909 as offering higher CADR and Wi-Fi but being bulkier; the Mighty2 is described as smaller and quieter at lower fan speeds. RTINGS says the Levoit Vital 200S is smaller and has Wi-Fi, while the Mighty2 performs better at quieter settings in its comparisons.
When choosing among them, compare room capacity at the noise level you will actually use, then consider footprint, connectivity, and replacement-filter cost and availability. Those trade-offs reflect RTINGS’ comparisons and may not determine which model is best for every room.
Verdict: who should buy the Mighty2?
The Coway Airmega Mighty2 is worth considering for a medium room if quiet operation and straightforward sensor-based controls matter more than app access. Its low-noise cleaning is the clearest advantage, while its size, lack of remote or app control, and recurring filter replacement are the main compromises. Size it using a room recommendation tied to the fan setting you plan to run, not the 1,800-square-foot, one-air-change-per-hour figure.
