Possibly—but Naoki Hamaguchi says the success of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy could also make publishers more cautious. The games have shown the commercial appeal of revisiting a classic, but dividing one title across several releases carries risk: if the first installment disappoints, deciding whether to fund the rest becomes difficult. Hamaguchi has not confirmed remakes of other Final Fantasy games.
Why FF7’s success could encourage more remakes
In an interview with Radio Times published October 5, 2026, journalist Alex Raisbeck asked Hamaguchi whether the success of FF7 Remake made future remakes more likely, or whether the project’s scale made them too difficult to repeat. His short answer was: “I think both are probably true.”
Hamaguchi said the first two installments had been very successful and contributed significantly to Square Enix from a business perspective. Decision-makers could look at that result and conclude, as he put it, “Well, you know, it succeeded. Let’s do the same again.” The commercial case is straightforward: a well-received remake can give a company reason to consider revisiting another established title.

Why the same approach could backfire
A multi-part game creates a decision point
The remake project’s structure is also a business risk. Hamaguchi noted that splitting one game into multiple installments makes the first release especially consequential. If it fails to receive the response the company hoped for, the publisher must decide what to do about the remaining installment or installments. A later game may still be creatively desirable, but the original plan becomes harder to justify commercially.
That risk means the success of this particular trilogy does not automatically make the format a safe template for other titles. A different game, audience, or production plan could produce a different result.

The team behind the trilogy may be hard to reproduce
In an October 2026 interview with PC Gamer, Hamaguchi described the trilogy as a valuable case study but questioned whether another team could replicate its circumstances. He said the team had worked together for 10–12 years. That duration describes this team’s experience together; it is not a general development-time estimate for future remakes.
Continuity in leadership mattered too. Hamaguchi said he remained series director because he was strongly motivated to continue, while another lead might have wanted to move on after the first installment. A change in director can shift a project’s direction, style, or themes. So the challenge is not only funding a large production; it is also sustaining the people and creative leadership that carry it through.

As Hamaguchi put it through a translator: “But whether this becomes a model case or a template is, I think, a bit of a difficult question, because it becomes a question of whether or not other teams can recreate that.”
What has been said about future Final Fantasy projects?
Interviews about Final Fantasy VII Revelation describe it as the conclusion of the remake trilogy, not as the beginning of an announced slate of other remakes. In a Tokyo Game Show interview published September 19, 2026, Hamaguchi said the team had no specific future plans for Final Fantasy VII at that time, while allowing that fan response after release could influence whether anything else followed.

In a September 10, 2026 interview with Respec, he likewise said he was not planning further stories related to the remake trilogy at that time, while distinguishing that from the broader future of Final Fantasy VII. These comments leave room for uncertainty about that franchise; they do not confirm remakes of Final Fantasy VI or any other numbered entry.
Why remake decisions are creative as well as commercial
A remake has to balance recognition with a coherent new version of the story. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, Hamaguchi warned that trying to incorporate every strongly positive and negative fan reaction can leave a game without a clear identity. He also said the team sought to preserve as much as possible from the original FF7, while changing the order of some story beats to improve pacing.
Best Value
- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can switch between two game modes: o "Graphics Mode" prioritises 4K high-resolution graphics o "Performance Mode" prioritises smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customisable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
That helps explain why another remake would not simply be a matter of applying the trilogy’s production plan to another title. Each game would bring its own expectations and creative decisions, alongside its commercial risks.
What the comments do—and do not—tell us
- There is a reason to consider more remakes: Hamaguchi says the first two FF7 Remake entries succeeded commercially and contributed significantly to Square Enix.
- There is a reason to be cautious: a weak first installment could make funding later parts of a multi-release project difficult.
- The production model may not transfer easily: Hamaguchi pointed to long-running team collaboration and director continuity as circumstances that another project might not reproduce.
- No other numbered remake is confirmed by these interviews: comments about the future of Final Fantasy VII do not amount to an announcement about another Final Fantasy game.
The available interviews provide no independently verified sales total for Remake or Rebirth. Radio Times reports Hamaguchi’s qualitative assessment of their performance, but does not give a sales figure.
