The wired Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE is designed for MMO and MOBA players who want many controls under the thumb: it has 17 programmable buttons, including a 12-button side panel that slides to adjust its position. That flexibility may help you map frequent actions to your thumb, but it does not guarantee a comfortable fit—your hand size, grip, and thumb reach matter. It is a better fit if you are willing to configure controls in Corsair iCUE; it is not the wireless Scimitar model.
What the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE offers
Corsair’s product information, updated February 13, 2026, describes the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE as a wired MMO/MOBA mouse. Its headline feature is a side cluster of 12 buttons that can be repositioned along the mouse, within a total of 17 programmable buttons. Corsair says this lets users place the cluster to suit their hand and grip; treat that as an adjustment option, not a promise that the layout will suit every hand.
| Feature | What Corsair lists |
|---|---|
| Connectivity | Wired |
| Programmable buttons | 17 total, including 12 on the repositionable side panel |
| Sensor | PMW3391 optical sensor, up to 18,000 DPI |
| Lighting | Four-zone RGB |
| Profiles | Three onboard profiles |
| Report rate options | 1000, 500, 250, or 125 Hz |
| Weight | Corsair’s support specification says 122 g without cable and accessories; its US product page lists 148.33 g. Corsair does not reconcile the figures, so they should not be treated as directly comparable measurements. |
| Warranty | Two years on Corsair’s current support specification; actual terms depend on region and purchase. |
These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent performance measurements. See Corsair’s product information and Corsair’s support specifications.

Where the layout can help
If you regularly use many abilities, items, or shortcuts in an MMO or MOBA, putting them within thumb reach can reduce the need to move a hand to the keyboard for every action. The side panel is repositionable, so you can move it toward a point that better matches your thumb’s natural reach. Corsair’s FAQ confirms that the mouse buttons can be assigned multiple key inputs.
#1 Best Overall
- 17 Fully Programmable Buttons: Built with Ideal for performing frequent actions and executing complex macros in MMOs and MOBAs.
- Patented Key Slider Control System: Reposition the 12 side buttons to comfortably fit your grip.
- Native 18,000 DPI Optical Sensor: Equipped with a custom PixArt PMW3391 sensor, adjustable in 1 DPI resolution steps, for highly accurate and customizable tracking.
- Ultra-Durable Construction: The SCIMITAR RGB ELITE’s 50 million click-rated Omron switches, sturdy scroll wheel, and braided cable ensure that it stands up to the wear-and-tear of extended gaming.
- Comfortable Contoured Shape: Sculpted to fit the contours of your palm, regardless of hand size or grip style, with a right-side finger rest for added support.
What to consider before choosing it
- Hand and grip: Corsair identifies palm grip in its product information, but individual comfort varies. Consider whether your thumb can reach the buttons you plan to use without straining or shifting your grip.
- Button density: Twelve nearby side buttons provide many options, but you will need to learn their positions. If you use only a few bindings, the dense cluster may offer little benefit.
- Game type: Its MMO/MOBA orientation is clear. If you are choosing mainly for fast, light FPS movement, do not assume that a high button count proves it is the right fit; the available evidence does not establish a performance advantage for that use.
How do you configure buttons and profiles?
Button assignments, macros, and lighting are configured through Corsair iCUE. Corsair’s guide documents key remaps and macros, including saving basic lighting effects, remaps, and macros to hardware profiles. This makes the mouse’s flexibility dependent on a software setup workflow; no claim about current setup friction or software reliability is established here.
- Install and open Corsair iCUE, then select the SCIMITAR RGB ELITE.
- Use the assignments controls to remap buttons or create macros for the inputs you want.
- Adjust lighting in iCUE if desired, then save supported settings to a hardware profile for onboard use.
- Use the mouse’s onboard profile storage to keep up to three profiles on the device.
Corsair’s SCIMITAR FAQ confirms multiple key inputs and three onboard profiles; its iCUE macro guide explains remaps, macros, and hardware-profile saving.

What independent review evidence says—and what it does not
Tom’s Hardware’s review, published February 15, 2020, praised the mouse’s build and finish, comfort, and usefulness of its macro buttons. The reviewer also said the lift-off distance was difficult to assess precisely because Corsair did not provide an exact specification. That review is useful historical context, not a current test; there are no current latency measurements, durability results, or firsthand testing claims established here. Do not confuse it with the wireless Scimitar
The SCIMITAR RGB ELITE reviewed here is wired. Corsair’s separate SCIMITAR ELITE WIRELESS is a different model, not a wireless version of the exact product in this review. RTINGS’ comparison, updated March 5, 2026, also treats them as distinct products; check the exact model name and feature list before buying if wireless is essential. RTINGS’ model comparison.

Verdict: a specialized choice for players who will use the bindings
The SCIMITAR RGB ELITE’s strongest reason to choose it is also its most specific one: a movable bank of 12 thumb buttons, backed by programmable controls and three onboard profiles. It is worth considering for MMO or MOBA players who want that many bindings and are prepared to set them up in iCUE. If you need wireless, or would rarely use a large thumb-button grid, look at a different fit rather than treating this mouse’s button count as a general advantage.
