CoorsTek completed a third factory in Gumi, South Korea, in 2024, positioning the site to respond to changes in the semiconductor market and support new product launches. The available announcement does not identify the factory’s output as ceramic substrates specifically. CoorsTek’s current product materials do document a broad portfolio of custom ceramic substrates, so the expansion and the portfolio are related context—not proof that the new factory added a particular substrate to the catalog.
What CoorsTek announced in Gumi
K-Bench reported on August 6, 2024, that CoorsTek had completed its third factory in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The report says the facility is intended to help the company respond to semiconductor-market changes and serve as a hub for new product launches. It also describes a high-purity chemical vapor deposition silicon carbide (CVD SiC) manufacturing process developed through 14 years of research.
The report does not say that the new factory is dedicated to ceramic substrates, nor does it name a newly launched substrate product. The careful reading is that CoorsTek expanded its Korean manufacturing footprint and described the new site as supporting new products; its substrate range is documented separately in CoorsTek’s product catalog and Specialty and Custom Substrates brochure.

CoorsTek describes substrates as application-specific engineered components, with options spanning thin-film and thick-film designs, specialized materials, and custom construction. Its brochure says the company has developed and produced substrates from more than two dozen materials. That is a company-reported breadth of materials, not a promise that every material or construction is available for every order.

How to compare substrate options for an application
A buyer evaluating a ceramic substrate should match the construction and processing to its operating requirements. CoorsTek’s materials establish a set of available categories and customization capabilities, but they do not provide universal performance figures or a one-size-fits-all selection rule.

- Optical requirements: For light-sensitive semiconductor devices, ask whether opaque ADOS-90R is appropriate for the application.
- Medical requirements: For medical uses, clarify whether the documented USP Class VI medical-grade option matches the component’s specific requirements.
- Material and purity: Specify the operating conditions and required material or purity. The Gumi report’s high-purity CVD SiC process is a manufacturing capability mentioned for the factory, not evidence that every substrate uses CVD SiC.
- Geometry and finishing: Provide target thickness, shape, dimensions, and any secondary-processing needs.
- Integration: For designs involving several layers or fluid, gas, or vacuum paths, discuss laminated and hermetically sealed structures and precision channels.
- Application: Describe the intended system—such as electronics, semiconductor fabrication, medical devices, or sensor systems—so the supplier can assess the required substrate configuration.
CoorsTek’s semiconductor overview describes engineered ceramics as used across the semiconductor-fabrication cycle, and its catalog lists components for deposition, etch, diffusion, epitaxy, lithography, and wafer handling. Those are broader ceramic component categories, not a claim that each is a substrate application.

Where CoorsTek’s Korean operations are located
CoorsTek’s official facilities listing identifies a manufacturing site in Gumi City and a sales office in Suwon, South Korea. Its 2025 products guide reports more than 6,000 team members worldwide and includes Korea contact information. For a buyer, the Gumi location is the documented Korean manufacturing site; the Suwon listing is a sales office.

The expansion also sits within a longer company history in ceramics. CoorsTek Korea’s history page says the company began producing ceramic substrates for IBM in 1965. The company’s historical account gives output as 25 million units in the first year, later rising to 15 million units per week. Those are historical figures and should not be read as current production capacity.

The available information does not connect a specific substrate type, production volume, or product launch to the new factory. Buyers seeking a substrate should therefore treat the portfolio documentation—not the factory announcement—as the basis for discussing fit and specifications with CoorsTek.
