Control Resonant is worth considering if you want a character-driven sequel with a strange setting and a self-deprecating sense of humor. Remedy Entertainment’s follow-up to 2019’s Control puts Dylan Faden at the center of a search for his missing sister after he escapes the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). Manhattan is now overrun by competing paranatural entities. An Aftermath Hours discussion found the game enjoyable, though not without reservations; no numeric score or formal performance assessment was published.

Is Control Resonant worth playing?

Based on the available review discussion, yes—with qualifications. The strongest reason to play is Dylan himself: he is insecure, apologetic and repeatedly treated as a screw-up. That perspective creates an unusual comic tension between the seriousness of the surrounding paranormal crisis and the way other characters react to him.

The recommendation is therefore about narrative voice, character relationships and atmosphere, not a claim about graphics, technical performance, playtime, difficulty, price or platform support. Those details were not established in the published discussion.

His search takes place in a paranaturally affected Manhattan. The city is infested with competing entities, giving the story a setting where ordinary investigation and surreal danger coexist. The available coverage emphasizes the people caught in that situation rather than supplying a complete account of the game’s systems or structure.

Who do you play as?

Dylan Faden

You play as Dylan Faden. His defining trait is not effortless competence. He is insecure, apologizes constantly and is often treated by others as a complete failure. Gita Jackson described deliberately making him apologize at every opportunity, while Luke Plunkett highlighted the humor created when cinematic stakes collide with Dylan’s in-game reputation as a “complete fuck up.”

Zoe, his handler

Zoe acts as Dylan’s abrasive handler. Her role gives the story a source of friction: Dylan is trying to prove himself while someone close to his mission is willing to challenge him rather than flatter him.

How does it compare with the first Control?

The clearest difference is the protagonist and narrative direction. The first Control centers on the FBC’s world; Control Resonant follows Dylan after he leaves that organization and searches for his sister. The sequel also changes the emotional starting point: instead of presenting an already established relationship with the Bureau, it makes Dylan earn trust.

Comparison Control Resonant What the available coverage establishes about the comparison
Playable perspective Dylan Faden The sequel reverses the original setup by placing Dylan in control.
Primary personal goal Find his missing sister His search begins after he escapes the FBC.
Relationship with the FBC Starts outside the Bureau and develops toward trust The FBC eventually trusts Dylan after the opening portion.
Setting Paranaturally affected Manhattan Competing paranatural entities infest the city.
Tone Insecure protagonist, abrasive handler and comic contrast The discussion focuses on character humor and tonal contrast.

Why the tone stands out

Control Resonant appears to understand that paranormal fiction does not have to be solemn at every moment. Dylan’s apologies and the contempt he receives create a running contrast with the danger around him. The joke is not that the setting is harmless; it is that the person expected to navigate it keeps being reminded that he may be the least impressive person in the room.

That contrast is also why the game can feel challenging without relying on a conventional tough-guy protagonist. Dylan has to operate under suspicion, respond to an abrasive handler and gradually demonstrate that he deserves responsibility.

How the FBC relationship changes

The FBC does not simply accept Dylan from the beginning. Jackson specifically praised the point when the Bureau begins to trust him after the opening section. That shift matters because it gives the story a visible change in Dylan’s position: he moves from outsider and presumed failure toward someone the organization is willing to rely on.

This evolving trust is one of the sequel’s supported comparison points with Control. It also provides a straightforward reason to keep following Dylan’s story even if the paranormal premise is already familiar.

What this review cannot establish

The published discussion does not provide a score, sales figures, playtime, confirmed platforms, release-date details, pricing, regional availability, physical-edition information, accessibility coverage or technical-performance results. It also does not supply a complete description of gameplay systems. Those questions should not be treated as answered by this review.

Verdict

Control Resonant is most compelling as a sequel about perspective: Dylan Faden is searching for his sister in a destabilized Manhattan while trying to survive other people’s low expectations. Its humor comes from the gap between the story’s cinematic seriousness and Dylan’s reputation as an apologetic screw-up. The available coverage reports genuine enjoyment with reservations, making this a qualified recommendation for players who value character, tone and paranormal world-building over a checklist of unverified technical claims.
