CONTROL Resonant is worth playing if you want a return to Remedy’s uncanny Manhattan and can accept that its combat, not its setting, is the element critics are least sure about. The game released on September 24, 2026, and is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Choosing a platform mostly comes down to hardware you already own, the edition you want, and whether you also play on Windows.
This guide does not come from hands-on testing. It draws on Remedy’s announcements, the Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox store listings, and one published PC Gamer review. Where a figure comes from a platform holder or a reviewer, the article says so.

What CONTROL Resonant is
CONTROL Resonant is a sequel to Control. Instead of Jesse Faden, the player controls her brother Dylan Faden, who is caught in a supernatural crisis in a paranaturally warped Manhattan. The premise includes the Hiss and Mold, along with other paranatural threats, according to Remedy’s announcement and the official product pages.

Remedy has announced a worldwide digital release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Mac availability through Steam and the App Store was announced for later in 2026, but the announcement did not give an exact date. On its launch page, Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen wrote: “CONTROL Resonant is out now.”
#1 Best Overall
- STEP INTO A WARPED REALITY: Explore multiple areas of a ravaged Manhattan in an expansive, unfamiliar, and exciting world. Traverse perception-bending locations and grapple with gravity anomalies that distort the vertical and horizontal plane, adding additional dimensions to puzzles and new tactical decisions to combat. Meet faces old and new on a path fraught with risk but rich in opportunity as the cityscape is reshaped and reality is redefined by a godlike force.
- MASTER THE PARANATURAL: Channel the raw experiences of Dylan’s past to help understand his present and dig deeper into the inner workings of the FBC and reveal the horrors threatening humankind. Tap into power he must learn to master and take choices to shape how his abilities manifest and grow. Explore a deep progression system to define how Dylan adapts to emerging dangers. Forge connections crucial to Dylan’s fight to retain his humanity as he journeys from former test subject to paranatural superweapon
- THE FIGHT SHIFTS. YOUR WEAPON SHIFTS WITH IT: Meet constantly evolving threats head-on, utilising the environment, deploying elemental abilities and using the raw force Dylan’s shapeshifting melee weapon, the Aberrant. Wield the Aberrant in its many deadly forms. Deliver bone-crunching blows with a two-handed hammer and flow seamlessly into the swift precision of dual-wielded blades as this paranatural weapon morphs on demand to meet each new challenge.
- SHARED LEGACY. NEW THREAT: FBC Director Jesse Faden's lockdown is no longer holding. A paranatural catastrophe has spilled beyond the Oldest House and onto the streets of Manhattan, and the Bureau's grip on containment is failing. Jesse Faden walked into the Oldest House to confront the threat within. Now Dylan must walk out of it to contain the threat beyond.
The shift to melee combat built around the Aberrant
The biggest change from Control is the combat. Remedy and PlayStation describe a system built around Dylan’s supernatural abilities and the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon. Its forms include a two-handed hammer and dual blades. That description comes from official material, so it tells you the design intent, not how well it plays.
Why the combat matters for your purchase
If you played Control mainly for its gunplay and telekinetic powers, expect a different rhythm. The Aberrant pushes CONTROL Resonant toward close-range action, and that is where the most debated feedback sits. PC Gamer’s review singled out melee combat as the weaker point of an otherwise strongly received game, so it is the first thing to weigh against your taste.

- Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
- Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
- Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
- Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!
What the setting and lore offer
The same review praised Remedy’s uncanny environments, its bureaucratic lore details, and the performances. If atmosphere and world-building are what kept you engaged in the first game, those strengths point toward a purchase; if you mainly want combat, the review suggests a more cautious approach.

Use the table as a screening check, not a promise. If your graphics card sits below the minimum tier, the game is unlikely to run as intended. If you are between tiers, check the frame rate you expect at the settings you want rather than relying on the listed category alone.
Checking your PC before you buy
- Compare your processor, memory, and graphics card with the minimum and recommended rows above.
- Confirm you have at least 100 GB of free storage for the install.
- Choose Steam or the Epic Games Store based on the storefront you already use, and confirm the edition contents on that store’s page.
PS5 and PS5 Pro
The PlayStation product page describes adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and Tempest 3D AudioTech. The stated performance targets are official goals, not independently measured results. On the US PlayStation page, Digital Deluxe was listed at $69.99 when checked; prices and bundles change, so confirm the live listing in your region.

Remedy’s announcements include physical editions for Xbox, and the official Xbox store listing identifies Series X|S optimization and single-player play. The listing also includes Xbox Play Anywhere. Play Anywhere titles are generally bought once and played on both the Xbox console and Windows PC, so the Xbox edition may suit players who already use both. Confirm that the specific edition you are buying carries the Play Anywhere label before buying.
Critical reception
PC Gamer’s review describes the game as “Melee action in an open world being ripped apart by interdimensional forces.” It praises Remedy’s uncanny environments, bureaucratic lore details, and performances, while criticizing melee combat. The review lists its test hardware as a GeForce RTX 4070 Super, Intel i7-14700K, and 32 GB DDR5 memory. Those are the reviewer’s results on that system, not a baseline for your setup. This is one published review, and it is the only independent assessment used in this guide.

Before you buy
- Check the live store page for price, region, and what the edition includes. Physical edition contents and prices vary by territory.
- Do not assume a boxed copy contains a complete game disc or a particular bonus until the package listing confirms it.
- Confirm the Mac release date on Steam or the App Store if you use a Mac, since the announcement gave only a 2026 window.
Which version to choose
- You have a PC that meets the recommended specifications: the PC version gives you the most control over settings, and the Steam Deluxe bundle adds digital extras.
- You have a PS5 without a 120 Hz display: the standard PS5 targets are 60 fps at 1440p in Performance mode or 30 fps at 2160p in Quality mode.
- You have a PS5 Pro and a 120 Hz display: the Balanced mode, with its 40 fps target at 2160p, is the setting to compare against the others.
- You play on both Xbox and Windows PC: the Xbox edition with Play Anywhere is the most flexible choice if the label is confirmed on your edition.
- You want a disc: Remedy has announced physical editions for PS5 and Xbox. No PC box was mentioned in the announcements.
