A New Directive is an optional quest in Control Resonant. After progressing through “Sever the Hedron Links” and “Pope’s Research” in the Unknown, follow the caller to Central, build a Director’s Office decoy in a containment unit, and lure Fra Mauro inside. Sealing the unit completes the quest and awards the Untapped Whetstone artifact.
When does A New Directive unlock?
The quest starts automatically through radio calls while you explore the Unknown after progressing “Sever the Hedron Links” and “Pope’s Research.” The walkthroughs differ on which islands trigger the calls and in what order, so follow the calls and the quest log rather than relying on a specific island route. PowerPyx’s walkthrough and AllThings. How’s mystery-caller guide both describe the call-based start.
How do you find the caller?
Go to the Field Office
After the second call, travel to the Field Office in Central. Enter the building marked CAFETERIA and speak with the person in a blue suit, identified by the walkthroughs as Fred.

Speak with Frederick Langston near the Field Panopticon, then return to Fred. In PowerPyx’s reported dialogue sequence, choose “You call Jesse ‘Roosa’” and then “You’re looking for Jesse?” The conversation reveals that Fra Mauro wants to become Director. Return to Langston with what you learned.

How do you build the fake Director’s Office?
Use the real office as a reference
Travel to the Oldest House and inspect the desk in the real Director’s Office to make a reference sketch. Then return to the containment unit south of Langston and arrange its furniture to match:
- Put two plastic chairs in front of the desk.
- Place a sofa chair behind the desk.
- Put a fan and a light on the desk. AllThings. How specifies the fan on the left and the lamp on the right.
- Set two traffic cones behind the desk.
The fan-and-light orientation is a more specific placement detail in AllThings. How’s account; the other walkthrough confirms the objects and general arrangement.

How do you make Fra’s portrait?
Speak to Fra in the cafeteria and continue the conversation until the “Is it a Portrait” option appears. Take a portrait of Jesse from the Field Office and bring it to Fra so he can repaint it as his own portrait. Hang the finished portrait on the back wall of the decoy office.
How do you lure Fra into the unit?
- Speak with Langston again.
- Go to Zoe at the Watchtower and tell her how great Fred is.
- Use the radio beside Zoe to contact Fra and tell him the office is ready.
- Return to the Field Office. When Fra enters the decoy containment unit, activate the panel or switch beside its door to seal it.
Sealing Fra inside completes the quest. The detailed route and key sequence are also covered in AllThings. How’s side-quest guide.

What reward does the quest give?

The consulted walkthroughs describe one route and do not report branching endings or competing choices. Their accounts agree on the essential sequence: furnish the decoy, add Fra’s portrait, use Zoe and the radio to draw him in, then seal the unit.
