The headline’s advice that studios should avoid “AI music” is not something composer Petri Alanko is documented saying in the reporting available. What is on the record is narrower. Remedy says Control Resonant uses no generative-AI content, its lead gameplay designer calls that choice natural, and Alanko describes a human-led way of building the score along with a duty to the story and the people who play it. The line “Respect the client: the gamers, the fans, dammit” does not appear in any interview or article we could trace, so it should not be read as a verified quote.
Remedy’s position on generative AI in Control Resonant
Remedy’s stance on generative AI for this game comes from two people, speaking at different times, and it is worth keeping them separate.
Markus Mäki, interim CEO (February 10, 2026)
Speaking in an earnings question-and-answer session reported by Game Developer on February 10, 2026, Remedy interim CEO Markus Mäki said: “I can say that, for example, Control Resonant does not use generative AI content at all.” He also described varied interest in AI tools across disciplines at Remedy, said the company was following tool development, and tied any future use to ethical fit, player value and team interest. He stopped short of far-reaching promises. This is a dated statement about this game, not a binding commitment covering every future Remedy project.

In an interview with PCGamesN published June 28, 2026, lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov said: “We’re very much artists and designers, and everybody really cares about making sure that the game is made by us.” He connected that to creative freedom and said avoiding generative AI felt like a natural decision for the team. Mohov also said music has long mattered in Remedy’s games and discussed “Manalan Mailla,” a custom-written song by Finnish folk singer Vilma Jää that appeared in a trailer and has a story connection. These remarks are Mohov’s, not Alanko’s.

How Petri Alanko builds the soundtrack
Alanko’s own account, given to TechRadar Gaming, describes a process that starts with listening rather than with synthesis.
Recording everyday sounds
In a TechRadar interview published October 6, 2026, Alanko said he records sounds frequently with an iPhone or a small dictaphone and sometimes carries a small field recorder. He then manipulates the captured sounds into rhythm, harmony or melody. Much of the soundtrack comes from that origin. As he put it: “The weirder, the better. There’s no ‘too weird’ for that.”

Starting from concept art and story
In a TechRadar report published October 2, 2026, Alanko said Remedy’s concept art and project presentations help him form musical ideas. He also described synesthesia as part of his own experience, saying pictures can have a sound in his head. That is his account of his personal process, not a general explanation of how composers work or a clinical claim.
No fixed audio bible
Alanko told TechRadar that Remedy has no rigid “audio bible” governing how music is used across the brand. Decisions depend on context, intuition and what fits the moment.
Rank #3
- The action RPG sequel to Control, developed and published by Remedy Entertainment.
Responsibility to the story and the audience
The closest verified statement to the headline’s message about respecting players comes from a TechRadar interview published October 4, 2026. Alanko described a score as an “emotional vessel” for a story, said the composer’s duty is to represent that story, and said music should also be able to stand on its own. He added: “I carry the responsibility of respecting both the story creator and especially those who enjoy the story.” That is a statement about craft obligations to the story’s creators and its players. It does not address whether AI tools should be used in making music.
What the headline does not show
- A recommendation to studios to avoid AI music. The reporting contains no such advice from Alanko. The AI stance on record belongs to Remedy’s executives and designer, and it applies to Control Resonant.
- The “Respect the client” sentence. Its exact wording, including “the gamers, the fans, dammit,” could not be traced to a transcript or article. Use Alanko’s verified sentence above instead.
- A company-wide policy. Mäki’s remarks were about the current game and left future projects open.
- Any statistic. None of the reporting cited sales figures, production numbers or measured audience reactions to the score.
Where to hear the soundtrack and play the game
TechRadar Gaming reported on October 1, 2026 that the official Control Resonant soundtrack has 13 tracks and is available through music apps and YouTube. The same report listed the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Streaming catalogues and storefront availability can change or vary by region, so check the service you plan to use before you buy or subscribe.
