In the US Steam price snapshot checked October 7, 2026, it was $11.39, down from $29.99—a 62% discount listed through October 8. Steam’s English-language reviews were 95% positive, though the game’s deliberate inspection loop may feel repetitive to some players.
What is Contraband Police?
Developed by Crazy Rocks and published by PlayWay S.A., Contraband Police was released on March 8, 2023. You play a young officer assigned to a border post in Karikatka, a mountainous region of the fictional Acarist People’s Republic. The game is set in 1981.
Its central idea is to decide who and what can cross the border. Steam’s store description sums up the premise: “No amount of contraband should cross the border!” The work combines paperwork and searches with station management, pursuits, combat, assignments, and story decisions.
What do you do in Contraband Police?
Inspect travelers and vehicles
You examine travelers’ documents for errors, then search vehicles for hidden contraband. A UV flashlight and other tools help reveal concealed items. The appeal is in the close inspection: spotting an inconsistency or a hiding place matters more than simply driving around an open map.

Run the post and respond to trouble
Between inspections, you can upgrade the police station and take on special assignments. The game also includes pursuits and combat, so the job can shift from careful checking to direct action. Steam’s content description warns of occasional violence or brutality and vulgar or explicit language.
Is Contraband Police worth it at the sale price?
For players interested in methodical document checks, vehicle searches, and a border-post setting, the premise offers a distinctive simulation loop. The price snapshot offers a lower-cost way to try it, and Steam provides a downloadable prologue/demo for sampling the game before buying.

The review numbers are favorable, but they are snapshots with different scopes. Steam showed 95% positive from 10,692 English-language reviews and 94% positive from 203 recent English-language reviews when accessed October 7, 2026; both counts can change. Notebookcheck’s October 5, 2026 article reported 95% positive from 25,867 reviews. These are not identical measurements, so treat them as separate indicators rather than a single combined score.

High ratings do not guarantee the pacing will suit everyone. Notebookcheck noted that some players find progression slow and mechanics repetitive. If repeating inspection routines sounds tedious rather than satisfying, try the prologue/demo before deciding.
