Yes—you can play a Connections-style word puzzle and create boards for other people to solve. A typical board has 16 words that form four groups of four. The exact site described in the original headline could not be verified from the available product pages, so its specific features—such as whether it requires login, saves drafts, or embeds puzzles in links—should be confirmed on that site itself.
What is a Connections-style word puzzle?
Players sort 16 words into four groups of four. Each group shares a connection, such as a category, phrase, or another relationship, and the puzzle has one intended solution. The format is described by Quadables and examined in the 2024 paper Making New Connections.
The challenge is not just spotting an obvious category. Individual words can suggest multiple relationships, and a set may appear to support a plausible group that is not intended. That makes careful category and word selection essential.
How to make a board people can solve
- Choose four categories. Give each group a distinct organizing idea. Avoid categories that are merely broad synonyms of one another.
- Write four entries for each category. Check that every word has a clear reason to belong in its assigned group.
- Look for accidental alternate groups. Review the full set of 16 words together. Ask whether a solver could reasonably combine words across your intended categories and explain that grouping.
- Set difficulty, if the creator offers it. Some comparable tools let creators assign difficulty colors; that feature is not confirmed for the site in the headline.
- Generate and share the puzzle. Comparable creators provide a link others can open to solve a custom board. Check what the specific tool includes in its link and whether it retains drafts before relying on it.
How to make the puzzle challenging without making it unfair
Overlap is a useful source of difficulty: a word may suggest more than one meaning or category. But ambiguity should invite thought, not make the intended solution impossible to infer. The research paper on Connections-style puzzle generation discusses overlap words and false groups as challenge mechanisms while emphasizing that a board needs one intended solution and meaningful category fit.

Wyna Liu, editor of Connections, described category development as iterative: “So you spin off a couple of categories, and then it’s a lot of massaging together. It’s a lot of trial and error for me, dead ends. When it does come together, it feels very satisfying.” In an interview with The Atlantic in November 2024, Liu also discussed exploring alternate meanings and using tester feedback to assess difficulty and alternate solutions. That is a useful design approach for any maker, not a verified description of how the site in the headline reviews its boards.

| Tool | Documented creation and sharing details |
|---|---|
| Quadables | Describes a 16-word, four-group puzzle format and says players can create and share custom puzzles for free on desktop and mobile without an account. It also describes a colored-square result summary. |
| Connections Maker | Describes entering four category names and four words per category, assigning difficulty colors, and generating a share link. Its page says drafts are saved in the browser, each link contains the puzzle, and no account is required. |
| Custom Connections | Documents category and clue entry, category difficulty ordering, and sharing with a unique link. |
| Custom Connections by Zachary Robinson | Says game data is embedded in the URL rather than stored on its server. |
These implementation details are not interchangeable: one tool may save drafts in a browser while another places puzzle data in a URL. Consult the relevant tool’s current page for its own behavior rather than assuming every maker handles data the same way.

What is established about the site in the headline?
The headline presents a free, no-login daily puzzle with a custom-board feature, but the available product pages do not identify that exact site by URL. They therefore cannot verify its current access requirements, puzzle schedule, draft storage, sharing method, account policy, or monetization. Treat those as details to confirm directly on the site, not as facts established by the other tools.
