To hook up an antenna to an LG Smart TV, connect its cable to the TV’s rear antenna input, then run Auto Tuning so the TV can find and save available broadcast channels. The menu path depends on the TV’s webOS version, and reception depends on the antenna’s placement and local signal conditions.
Connect the antenna to the TV
- Turn to the rear of the TV and locate its antenna input. Connect the antenna cable securely.
- If your TV has separate antenna inputs and you are setting up for UHD broadcasts, connect the cable to the input labeled “UHD TV Antenna.” If it has one antenna input, use that port.
- For UHD reception, LG recommends placing the antenna near a window to minimize signal interference. The best position and results vary with the home and local reception conditions.
LG’s antenna setup guide notes that ports and instructions can vary by model. If your TV’s labels differ, check the manual for your exact model.
Run Auto Tuning to find channels
After connecting the antenna, start an automatic channel scan. Use the path for your TV’s webOS version:

Choose Auto Tuning and let the scan finish. The TV saves the channels it receives to its channel list. These are LG’s general menu paths; exact labels can differ between models. See LG’s webOS-specific instructions if the menus do not match.

Fix missing channels or weak reception
The scan finds no channels
- Check that the cable is firmly connected at both ends and that it is plugged into the TV’s antenna input.
- If your TV has a dedicated UHD TV Antenna input and you are scanning for UHD broadcasts, make sure you used that port.
- Run Auto Tuning after connecting the antenna. Connecting it alone does not populate the channel list.
LG’s troubleshooting guidance also notes that UHD channels must be available in your area; the TV cannot tune in channels that are not being broadcast where you live.
Channels are intermittent or the signal seems weak
Try adjusting the antenna’s position. For UHD reception, LG recommends trying a location near a window. If your TV offers Manual Tuning, use it to inspect signal strength and quality while adjusting the setup; availability and labels depend on the model. LG describes this option in its antenna and channel-scanning guidance.

The menu path or scan behavior is different
Check the TV’s webOS version and look up the manual or support page for your exact model. Older LG manuals may use labels such as “CHANNEL,” “SETUP,” or “EZ Scan” instead of the current menu wording. Those instructions describe older interfaces, so do not assume their path applies to a newer TV. LG’s support page cautions that images and content may differ by model.
You use a set-top box
Auto Tuning is for an antenna connected directly to the TV. LG says users watching through a set-top box do not need to run Auto Tuning for that box setup; follow the box’s instructions for viewing its channels. See LG’s connection and scanning guidance.
