Conduent disclosed that a threat actor accessed and took files associated with a limited number of its clients during a cybersecurity incident in January 2025. The company’s filings do not identify the event as ransomware or name a ransomware group. Conduent says the files contained personal information belonging to clients’ end-users, but the sources available do not establish a definitive total number of people affected.
What happened in the Conduent incident?
In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, filed August 10, Conduent described an incident that took place in January 2025. The company said a threat actor exfiltrated files associated with a limited number of clients. After experts analyzed complex files, Conduent said it confirmed they contained personal information belonging to those clients’ end-users. These are Conduent’s disclosures, not an independent forensic report. Conduent’s Form 10-Q
The filings reviewed describe a “January 2025 Cyber Event” or cybersecurity incident; they do not confirm that it was ransomware, identify a ransomware group, or describe an extortion demand. The headline wording should therefore not be taken as confirmation of ransomware.
How Conduent described the operational impact
Conduent said it restored affected systems and returned to normal operations within days, and in some cases hours. It reported that the disruption did not have a material impact on operations. That assessment concerns operational impact; it does not mean no personal information was exposed.

When notifications began
Conduent said it worked with affected clients on legally required next steps. Notifications began in October 2025 and, according to the company, were substantially concluded by the time it filed its Q2 2026 report. Conduent also said that, to its knowledge, the exfiltrated data had not been released on the dark web or otherwise made public.
What information may have been involved?
Conduent’s filing confirms personal information belonging to end-users was in the files, but the company’s account cited here does not enumerate the data fields. A May 5, 2026 bulletin from Missouri’s Department of Commerce and Insurance summarized media reports that identified names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical records as information reportedly in affected files. How many people were affected?
There is no definitive affected-person total established by the company filings cited here. Missouri’s bulletin said media estimates varied, with some reports estimating 25 million Americans or more. That is a reported media estimate relayed by the state, not a confirmed count from Conduent or the bulletin.

Why a Conduent incident could affect people who do not know the company
Conduent Business Services provides back-office services to other organizations. Missouri’s bulletin describes services that include document processing, receiving insurance claim forms, and payment-integrity work for entities including insurers. A service provider may handle records for a client, so someone affected might recognize the insurer or other organization named in their notice rather than Conduent.
Conduent said the exfiltrated files were associated with a limited number of clients. The available information does not establish that every Conduent client, customer, or service line was involved.

Was I affected by the Conduent data breach?
A state notice-list entry or media estimate cannot tell you whether your information was in the files. Conduent said notifications were substantially concluded by August 10, 2026, but individual eligibility and next steps depend on the records and notice for the affected client.
- If you received a letter or other notice, follow the instructions in that notice and contact the organization named there to confirm what information was involved and what assistance is available.
- If you need to contact Conduent about the incident, Missouri’s bulletin lists an assistance line at 877-332-1658, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time. It also lists this mailing address: Attn: Data Incident, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 200, Florham Park, New Jersey 07932.

Is the Conduent settlement final?
No. In a Form 8-K filed September 10, 2026, Conduent said it had reached an agreement in principle in August to settle consolidated litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Conduent denied the plaintiffs’ allegations and said it believed it had strong defenses. The company also said it maintained cyber insurance and did not expect the settlement to materially affect its financial position, results, or cash flows. Those statements reflect Conduent’s positions and expectations; they do not make the proposed settlement final or establish court approval.
