The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s clearest upgrades over the S22 Ultra are its newer processor in some regions and a 200MP main camera instead of 108MP. The phones otherwise share a 6.8-inch QHD+ display, 5,000mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and 3x and 10x optical zoom cameras. Which costs less today depends on local price, storage, condition, and seller; Samsung’s available US list prices are historical, not a current price comparison.
What is the difference between the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra?
The S23 Ultra updates the main camera and processor generation while keeping much of the S22 Ultra’s core hardware. The comparison below follows Samsung Germany’s specifications for models SM-S918B and SM-S908B; processor variants can differ by market.

Which processor does each phone have?
In Samsung Germany’s comparison, the S22 Ultra uses Exynos 2200 and the S23 Ultra uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. That is not a universal S22 configuration: Samsung Australia identifies an S22 Ultra variant with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Check the model number and processor for the specific country and listing rather than assuming every S22 Ultra has Exynos.

The specifications establish a newer processor generation for the listed S23 Ultra, but they do not quantify real-world speed, heat, or battery improvements. Samsung’s comparison is not an independent benchmark test.
Do the camera changes make the S23 Ultra a better choice?
The main rear camera moves from 108MP on the S22 Ultra to 200MP on the S23 Ultra. That is a meaningful specification difference, but resolution by itself is not a complete measure of image quality, particularly across different lighting and shooting conditions. The front camera’s listed resolution goes the other way: 40MP on the S22 Ultra and 12MP on the S23 Ultra.

For zoom, the specifications are more alike: both phones have 3x and 10x optical telephoto cameras. If long-range optical zoom is your priority, the headline camera change does not remove a capability the older phone already has.

How different are the display, battery, and charging?
Samsung lists both screens at 6.8 inches with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology and a 3,088 × 1,440 resolution. The S23 Ultra is listed with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the S22 Ultra has Victus+.

There is no verified current price difference here. Prices vary by country, storage capacity, condition, carrier status, seller, and promotions, so compare listings that match on those details.
For historical context only, Samsung US’s MSRP list effective July 2023 shows the unlocked S22 Ultra 128GB at $1,199.99, marked end of life, and the unlocked S23 Ultra 5G 256GB at $1,199.99. These are US list prices for different storage tiers, not today’s street prices or evidence that the phones currently cost the same.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the S23 Ultra if
- You want the newer processor generation in the regional model you are buying.
- You value the 200MP main-camera specification and can find it at a price that fits your budget.
- You need at least 256GB of built-in storage, the S23 Ultra’s starting tier in Samsung’s comparison.
Consider the S22 Ultra if
- A matched-condition, matched-storage local listing makes it meaningfully less expensive.
- You want the 128GB entry storage option, or prefer its listed 40MP front-camera resolution.
- The model available in your market meets your needs; check whether it has Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Before buying either used or refurbished, check the exact model, storage, carrier status, physical condition, and software-support status for your market. Samsung Germany’s page states an S23-series commitment of up to four years of Android/One UI updates and five years of security updates, but that policy statement does not establish live support status in October 2026 for a particular device or region.

Will S22 Ultra accessories fit the S23 Ultra?
The listed dimensions differ slightly: the S22 Ultra is 163.3 × 77.9 × 8.9mm and the S23 Ultra is 163.4 × 78.1 × 8.9mm. Choose a case or screen protector made for the exact model rather than assuming they are interchangeable. Samsung’s comparison does not list an applied screen protector in the box contents. Both phones support up to 45W wired charging; if you need an adapter, verify that it supports a compatible charging protocol and the correct regional plug.

The S23 Ultra brings a newer processor in the listed regional comparison and a higher-resolution main camera, but the S22 Ultra shares its display size and resolution, battery capacity, charging ratings, and 3x/10x optical zoom. Choose based on the actual local price for the storage and condition you want, plus the exact regional model—not the old MSRP figures alone.
