Commissary Club is a digital employment and social platform founded by Richard Bronson for people with criminal records. The startup says it uses AI to help users navigate employment and housing after prison, alongside benefits and community features. TechCrunch’s October 8, 2026 report describes the company’s aims, but does not establish that the service secures jobs or housing.

What is Commissary Club?

Commissary Club combines employment assistance with tools and features for navigating housing and benefits, connecting with other people, and dating. Founder Richard Bronson described the community feature as “almost like Facebook.” The company’s stated focus is helping people with criminal records after release from prison.

Bronson told TechCrunch: “We’re building AI that creates employment for people that society left behind.” That is the company’s goal, not a reported measure of results. The article does not describe the AI’s capabilities in detail or independently evaluate the service.

Why did Richard Bronson start it?

Bronson said the idea grew out of his own experience trying to find work after prison. “Nobody would hire me, despite all of my education and work experience and everything else. I was like completely radioactive,” he told TechCrunch. He also said, “I could not help but notice how little assistance was available to people coming out of prison.”

TechCrunch reported that Bronson worked at Stratton Oakmont in the 1980s and later started a South Florida firm. He told the publication that the business grew substantially before securities-law violations led to a federal prison sentence of a couple of years. Bronson described his earlier business this way: “I built a $100 million business taking these small cap companies public.” That figure refers to his account of his past business, not Commissary Club or the reentry market.

Can people find jobs or housing through it?

The platform is intended to help with employment and housing navigation, but TechCrunch reported no independently measured job placements, housing outcomes, or user results. The story also provides no user totals or independent assessment of the AI. Its claims should therefore be read as a description of what Commissary Club aims to do, not evidence that it has delivered particular outcomes.

How much does Commissary Club cost?

According to Bronson, as quoted by TechCrunch on October 8, 2026, the first 10 applications were free. After that, a bundle of 10 cost $149, or users could pay $14.99 for an individual application. These are prices reported at that time, not independently confirmed current pricing.

Who is behind the startup?

TechCrunch described Commissary Club as a two-person team: Bronson and co-founder Roman Kissin. The article said Kissin had previously worked at eBay and IBM and served as LexisNexis CTO from 2022 through 2025, citing his LinkedIn profile for that work history.
