A Bitcoin Magazine interview page published October 5, 2026, presents Coinbase Chief Business Officer Shan Aggarwal discussing institutional Bitcoin infrastructure and says big banks are increasing their BTC exposure. But the page is a synopsis with chapter markers, not a transcript, and it provides no bank-level holdings data. Its headline is therefore an interview framing, not proof of a measured increase.

What the interview page says—and what it establishes

The October 5, 2026, Bitcoin Magazine interview page identifies Aggarwal as Coinbase’s first Chief Business Officer. Its synopsis says the conversation covers Coinbase’s role in Bitcoin ETF custody and its support for financial advisers. It also lists chapters about BlackRock and JPMorgan, stablecoins, payments, Bitcoin Lightning, AI-agent payments, collectibles and the Coinbase One Card.

Those descriptions establish the subjects the page presents as part of the interview. They do not establish the firms’ Bitcoin holdings, provide product specifications or show that a particular service is available. The page contains no transcript and reproduces no interview quote from Aggarwal, so it would be misleading to attribute detailed statements or figures to him based on the synopsis alone.

Does the page prove that big banks are increasing Bitcoin exposure?

No. The headline makes that claim, but the page supplies no named bank’s holdings, percentage, dated comparison or underlying data. A chapter titled “What BlackRock and JPMorgan Want From Bitcoin Infrastructure” signals a discussion about infrastructure; it does not demonstrate that either company directly owns more Bitcoin. The claim should be read as the interview’s framing, not a verified statistic.

Bitkey Bitcoin Hardware Wallet, No Screen - Self-Custody, No Seed Phrase
  • BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
  • SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

What has changed for financial advisers?

The regulatory development referenced by the interview was a proposal, not a final rule. On October 1, 2026, the SEC issued a proposed rule concerning custody of crypto assets by registered investment advisers and regulated funds, as well as related reporting and recordkeeping requirements.

The SEC’s press release says the proposal would, subject to conditions, permit certain advisers or funds to use crypto self-custody or state trust companies as custodians. It is not a blanket authorization for every adviser to self-custody every client’s Bitcoin. The proposal’s public comment period is 60 days after publication in the Federal Register; the supplied SEC materials do not establish a final rule or its eventual requirements.

In a separate October 1 statement, SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins characterized crypto as having grown “from a niche curiosity into a multi-trillion-dollar asset class to which investors actively seek exposure.” That is Atkins’s description, not a specific market-size estimate or evidence about any bank’s holdings. Read the SEC statement.

ETF exposure and direct custody are different questions

The interview synopsis connects Coinbase with Bitcoin ETF custody and adviser support, while the SEC proposal addresses custody arrangements for crypto assets held by regulated advisers and funds. These are related infrastructure topics, but they are not interchangeable routes to Bitcoin exposure: an investor may obtain exposure through an ETF, while direct ownership involves custody of the crypto asset itself.

For a meaningful comparison, a reader would need to know the custodian, who controls the assets, the relevant regulatory status and the operational safeguards. The interview page does not quantify Coinbase’s ETF custody role or provide enough evidence to recommend one route over another. The SEC action remains proposed, so it should not be treated as a settled change in the rules advisers must follow.

Other subjects in the chapter list

The chapter headings mention the Coinbase One Card, a “trillion-dollar stablecoin opportunity,” a Coinbase–Citi merchant-payments effort, Bitcoin Lightning, AI-agent payments, collectibles and everyday Bitcoin rewards. They indicate topics raised by the page, not independently verified product terms, current availability, performance or market sizing. In particular, the “trillion-dollar” phrase is not supported on the page by a source, methodology or year, so it should not be presented as a measured market statistic.
