Cloudflare is the better fit if you want registrar pricing without markup and are happy to use Cloudflare nameservers. Namecheap is worth considering if you want its broader domain-service mix or qualify for a first-year promotion. Compare the same extension and term at checkout, especially the renewal price: an introductory price is not the recurring cost.

Which registrar should you choose?
Choose Cloudflare if you want at-cost pricing and Cloudflare DNS
Cloudflare says it passes through registry and ICANN charges without adding a registrar markup. Its Registrar offering includes Cloudflare DNS, CDN, SSL, DNSSEC, WHOIS redaction and domain locking. Those bundled features make it a natural choice if your site already uses Cloudflare or you want those services together. Check the live Cloudflare Registrar price table for the extension you plan to register; the price is not the same across all TLDs.
The trade-off is important: Cloudflare Registrar domains use Cloudflare nameservers. If you need another provider to be authoritative for your DNS, that requirement may rule out Cloudflare Registrar. Review the Cloudflare Registrar documentation before moving an existing domain or relying on a particular DNS setup.
Consider Namecheap if its services or eligible offer suit you
Namecheap may fit better if you value its domain-related services, want its DNS options, or qualify for a promotional registration price. Its .com page lists BasicDNS and DNSSEC, free privacy for eligible domains, registrar lock and 24/7 support. Confirm the eligibility and terms for the exact domain; privacy is not stated as universal across every extension.

Compare the real cost, not just the first-year offer
As displayed on Namecheap’s official pages accessed October 7, 2026, its .com first-year price was $11.28 and renewal was $18.48. The .com page also listed a transfer price of $11.48. A separate new-customer offer listed .com at $6.79 for the first year, limited to one domain purchase per user or household and subject to offer terms. These are provider-published prices and promotions, not independent measurements; prices and eligibility can change. Namecheap domain prices Namecheap .com registration
Namecheap says a $0.20 ICANN fee is added at purchase for some domains. The checkout total can also depend on the extension, promotion eligibility and whether the domain is premium. Cloudflare publishes registration, renewal, transfer and restore rates by supported extension in its live price table; check the current figure rather than assuming a static .com price.

- Choose the exact extension. Prices and supported features can differ by TLD; a .com comparison does not establish the price or privacy eligibility for another extension.
- Compare the same term and transaction. Look at registration against registration, renewal against renewal, or transfer against transfer. Do not compare a first-year promotion at one provider with a renewal at the other.
- Check the renewal amount and promotion rules. Use the recurring price to estimate the cost of keeping the domain, and confirm whether you qualify for any introductory offer.
- Review the checkout total. Check for any applicable fees and confirm whether the domain is premium before paying.
DNS, privacy and security: check the details that affect your setup
Nameservers are the clearest practical difference
Cloudflare Registrar requires Cloudflare nameservers. That is suitable if you want Cloudflare to handle authoritative DNS, but it is a constraint if your current setup depends on another DNS provider. Namecheap lists BasicDNS and DNSSEC on its .com registration page; verify the specific DNS arrangement and features you intend to use before registering or transferring.
Privacy and security features are not identical guarantees
Cloudflare lists WHOIS redaction, domain lock and one-click DNSSEC as Registrar features. Namecheap advertises free privacy for eligible domains and lists DNSSEC and registrar lock for eligible domains. Read the providers’ current terms for your extension rather than treating privacy or security features as automatically available in every case. Cloudflare Registrar Namecheap domain privacy service
What happens if you need a refund?
Cloudflare says registration, renewal and transfer charges passed to the registry become non-refundable once the transaction completes. If flexibility to reverse a completed transaction matters to you, review the provider’s terms before proceeding. Cloudflare Registrar FAQ

Pick Cloudflare when its at-cost pricing model and required Cloudflare nameservers fit your setup. Consider Namecheap when its services, DNS options or an eligible introductory offer better match your needs. For either provider, decide using the exact TLD, checkout total and recurring renewal price—not a headline promotion alone.
