The cloud news connecting Amazon, GoGrid and Alcatel-Lucent comes from different years and describes different things: AWS reported public-sector adoption in 2012, Alcatel-Lucent proposed a carrier-focused cloud platform in 2011 and announced a Transtelco trial in 2012, and GoGrid described a private connectivity bridge in 2013. The available sources do not establish what “Trellia” refers to in this context, so it cannot be reliably tied to those announcements.
What these cloud announcements cover
This is a historical roundup, not a current service comparison. The items span 2011 to 2013 and range from reported customer adoption to a platform proposal, a trial announcement and a connectivity release.
| Company or item | What the cited announcement describes | Evidence and date |
|---|---|---|
| Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand | A carrier-cloud orchestration system and infrastructure node, introduced for communications service providers. | Product announcement, November 2011; vendor-stated aims. Alcatel-Lucent announcement |
| AWS public-sector and education use | Amazon’s report of government and education organizations using AWS. | Company-reported adoption figures, October 10, 2012. Amazon announcement |
| Transtelco and CloudBand | A planned trial to offer cloud services to business and carrier customers in the United States and Mexico. | Trial announcement, May 2012. Alcatel-Lucent and Transtelco announcement |
| GoGrid | A private connectivity bridge into GoGrid’s cloud inside Equinix data centers. | Company announcement, 2013. GoGrid announcement |
| Trellia | Its identity or role in this group of cloud stories is not established by the available sources. | No attributable announcement identified. |
What Alcatel-Lucent proposed with CloudBand
Alcatel-Lucent introduced CloudBand in November 2011 as a way for communications service providers to combine cloud resources with their networks. The described system included management software for orchestration and optimization, along with a CloudBand node containing computing, storage and networking hardware and software.

The intended distinction was its carrier focus: rather than treating cloud infrastructure as separate from the network, the proposal aimed to coordinate both. Alcatel-Lucent said this could help providers build services with network performance, control and service guarantees. These were the vendor’s intended benefits, not independently demonstrated results in the announcement. The company’s Software, Services & Solutions Group president, Adolfo Hernandez, summarized its argument: “The network makes the cloud, and communications service providers own the networks. That’s a very powerful combination.”

What the 2011 survey claim does—and does not—show
Alcatel-Lucent said its survey covered nearly 3,500 enterprise IT decision makers and found performance to be their leading cloud concern, followed by security. The release does not provide a full methodology, so this is best understood as the company’s description of its survey, not an independently verified measure of cloud buyers’ priorities.
What the Transtelco trial announcement adds
In May 2012, Alcatel-Lucent and Transtelco announced a CloudBand trial tied to Transtelco’s El Paso data center. The proposed offering was aimed at business and carrier customers in the United States and Mexico. The announcement is evidence of a trial plan, not proof of broad commercial deployment or independently verified service performance.

What Amazon reported about AWS adoption in 2012
In an October 10, 2012 announcement, Amazon said more than 300 government agencies and 1,500 education institutions were using AWS. Those are figures Amazon reported at that time; they are not current counts and the announcement does not establish that they were independently audited.

Any operational savings discussed in the release are claims attributed to the quoted CDC representative in that 2012 context, not an independent performance finding about AWS generally.

What the GoGrid connectivity bridge was about
A 2013 GoGrid announcement described a private connectivity bridge to its cloud inside Equinix data centers. This concerns network access to a cloud infrastructure service, rather than a carrier-cloud orchestration platform or an adoption tally. The announcement does not establish GoGrid’s present-day availability, ownership or product status.
Why these stories are not a like-for-like comparison
The names do not describe four directly competing cloud services. AWS’s cited item concerns reported use by public-sector and education organizations; CloudBand was a platform proposal for communications providers; GoGrid’s release concerned private connectivity to cloud infrastructure. The evidence types also differ: reported adoption, product announcement, trial announcement and connectivity announcement cannot be ranked as equivalent measures of product quality or market success.

For general context, the ITU’s 2016 report discusses SaaS, PaaS and IaaS and identifies service-level agreements and data portability among considerations when assessing cloud migration. Those criteria can help frame a cloud decision, but the report does not compare the performance of the companies named here. Read the ITU report.
What can be said about Trellia?
The sources available for these announcements do not reliably identify Trellia or link it to Amazon, GoGrid or Alcatel-Lucent. Without a verifiable source resolving the name, it would be misleading to assign Trellia a product, owner or place in this cloud history.
