The Click & Grow Smart Garden is a small indoor growing system that pairs pre-seeded Plant Pods with LED lighting and passive watering. The Smart Garden 3 has space for three pods; the Smart Garden 9 has space for nine. Choose between them based on how many plants you want to grow at once and how much counter space you can spare.
How does a Click & Grow Smart Garden work?
Click & Grow’s setup is straightforward: insert its pre-seeded Plant Pods, add water, and connect the garden to power. LEDs provide light, while the system’s passive watering supplies water to the plants. The company says its pods provide what plants need to grow; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified performance result. Click & Grow describes setup and monthly maintenance as taking a few minutes, but those time estimates have not been independently measured.
Smart Garden 3 vs. Smart Garden 9
The clearest difference is planting capacity. The SG3 fits three pods, while the SG9 fits nine. The larger model can grow more plants at once, but it also takes more counter space.

What can you grow, and do the pods fit every garden?
Click & Grow lists more than 60 Plant Pod varieties, including herbs, greens, and other plants. The company says its pods are compatible across its own gardens. That does not establish compatibility with other brands’ indoor gardens; check the selected variety and garden generation before buying pods.
Pods are a continuing supply need: each growing space uses a pod, and you will need another when replacing a finished crop. The SG3 and SG9 starter assortments listed above differ, so consider whether their included plants match what you want to grow.

How often do you need to refill the water?
There is no reliable universal refill interval established for these models. Click & Grow’s official pages give conflicting tank information: the SG3 product page lists 1.2 litres (40 oz), its support specification lists 1.5 litres, and its setup guide says to add about 1.3 litres. For the SG9, the product page lists 1.2 litres (40 oz), while the setup guide instructs users to add about 4 litres. These figures should not be combined into one capacity or used to estimate weeks between refills.
Because the official figures differ, follow the setup guide for your exact model and version when filling the reservoir, and check the water level as you use the garden. The cited instructions are Click & Grow’s SG3 setup guide, SG9 setup guide, and SG3 specifications.

Power, placement, and temperature
For the SG3, Click & Grow’s support specification lists 8W power consumption, monthly use of 3.8 kWh, a recommended temperature range of 20–24°C, and an LED life of seven years. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. Check the model’s own specifications and setup guide when planning placement or comparing versions.
Before choosing a spot, account for the lamp as well as the base. The dimensions in the comparison table are from the respective setup guides and specify the extension configuration; the guides also provide height details for other extension arrangements.

How to clean and maintain the garden
Click & Grow advises emptying and rinsing the reservoir, using a little detergent if desired, rinsing thoroughly, and drying it. For the SG3 and SG9, the company says the reservoir, reservoir lid, and plastic cups are dishwasher-safe only up to 50°C. Do not put the lamp, germination domes, U-shaped lids, or water-transmitting wicks in the dishwasher. The cups are reusable.

Which model should you choose?
- Choose the Smart Garden 3 if three growing spaces are enough and a smaller setup better suits your counter.
- Choose the Smart Garden 9 if you want to grow up to nine pods at once and have room for its larger footprint.
- Check the exact model documentation if water capacity matters to your decision; Click & Grow’s published figures differ between pages.
- Confirm pods and starter contents against the current regional listing, especially if you want a particular crop or are buying pods for a different garden generation.
