What do Claude Max and ChatGPT Pro cost?
If the $20 plans do not suit your usage, the higher-priced subscriptions are not a direct price-for-price comparison: their included capabilities and usage differ.

Anthropic lists Max starting at $100 monthly; OpenAI’s current Help Center lists ChatGPT Pro tiers at $100, $200, and $500 per month. The daily amounts divide each monthly price by 12 and then by 365, so they are annualized averages rather than billed rates. Price alone does not establish which plan offers better value for a particular workload.

No. Equal monthly prices do not promise identical access, usage capacity, tools, or results. OpenAI says Plus provides broader model and tool access than Free, while model availability and limits can change during rollouts. Anthropic says Claude usage depends on conversation length and complexity, the selected model, and features used.
Anthropic describes usage limits as rolling five-hour windows, with additional weekly limits on paid plans. Activity across Claude on the web, desktop, mobile, and Claude Code draws from a shared pool. Because usage depends on those factors, Anthropic does not provide a fixed message count that guarantees equivalent capacity for every subscriber. Check each plan’s current details before choosing based on expected volume.
Is API use included in the daily subscription price?
No. A ChatGPT Plus subscription does not include API usage; OpenAI bills API use separately. Anthropic also publishes API prices separately from its consumer plans. API spending is metered, so there is no universal daily winner without specifying the models, input and output token volumes, caching, and tools involved. Compare the relevant API rates and estimate your expected usage rather than treating a subscription’s monthly fee as an API budget.
