Claude Code’s ultrareview and Dromeas Code Review use different review workflows, but the available head-to-head does not establish a general winner. Dromeas reports that, on one 31-file pull request, ultrareview returned one nit while Dromeas retained 17 findings after cross-verification. Because Dromeas published the comparison and tested only one change, treat those counts as a case study—not a measure of what either tool will find on your code.
How the two review workflows differ
Claude Code ultrareview
Anthropic describes ultrareview as a research-preview, cloud-based feature that dispatches multiple reviewer agents in a remote sandbox to look for and verify bugs. It is available in Claude Code v2.1.86 and later, though the feature and its availability may change. A user starts it from Claude Code with /code-review ultra or with the claude ultrareview CLI subcommand; the documentation says it does not start automatically. For a current-branch review, Claude Code bundles and uploads repository state to the remote sandbox. PR mode fetches a pull request from GitHub or a connected GitHub Enterprise Server. Before a run, the interface shows its scope and estimated cost; work can continue in the background.
Anthropic’s documentation lists three free ultrareview runs for Pro and Max plans, with usage credits billed after included runs where applicable. It lists no free runs for Team and Enterprise. Plan entitlements and costs can change, so check the current ultrareview documentation before budgeting. The feature is not available through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry, or to organizations with Zero Data Retention enabled.

Dromeas describes its service as a workflow combining specialist agents, analysis by multiple models, cross-verification, context selection, and a per-model scoreboard. Those are Dromeas’s own product descriptions, not independently verified properties. “LLM council” here means the workflow Dromeas describes; it is not a standardized certification or a guarantee that model diversity improves every review. Its comparison page presents the company’s feature claims and conclusions, which should be read as vendor-authored.

To compare the services for your own team, check what repository context each receives, where that code is processed, how findings are verified, whether you can inspect model-specific candidates and dropped findings, and what permissions, costs, and wait times apply. Dromeas’s current product documentation is the relevant source for its setup and privacy details; verify those specifics before sending private code.
What Dromeas reported in its pull-request comparison
In an August 2026 article, Dromeas said it compared the tools on openclaw/openclaw PR #124250, a human-approved change spanning 31 files and +1,064/−116 lines. Dromeas reported one ultrareview finding—a nit in an Android test—and 29 Dromeas candidate findings. After cross-verification, Dromeas said it retained 17: 12 quality findings and five security findings. It said 12 compliance findings were dropped or treated as duplicates. These numbers describe Dromeas’s account of that single run, not independently replicated results.

The counts are not a controlled benchmark or a like-for-like measure of accuracy. The tested change, tool configuration, detection criteria, and the vendor’s role in reporting the result limit what can be inferred. A higher candidate or retained-finding count is not by itself evidence of higher precision, lower false-positive rates, or better coverage across other repositories. The available sources do not establish an independent product-specific comparison.

Using several models can provide different perspectives, but the number of models alone does not show that a review is better. A 2026 arXiv preprint on cross-model code review reports that outcomes depend on which model authored the draft and which model reviewed it. It does not compare Dromeas with ultrareview or establish that council-style review wins in general. Read the preprint as broader context about reviewer-author combinations, not as evidence for either product’s performance.

For a practical evaluation, inspect whether each finding points to a reproducible defect, whether the proposed fix is sound, and how many findings your engineers would keep after review. Also compare the audit trail: can you see original candidates, model attribution, verification decisions, duplicates, and discarded items? That evidence is more useful than a headline finding count.
Which workflow should your team choose?
- Choose based on your integration needs: Ultrareview is manually invoked from Claude Code or its CLI. It is distinct from Anthropic’s separate GitHub Code Review integration, which can trigger on pull-request events and post inline comments. The integration requires an organization owner to select repositories and install the Claude GitHub App; its documented setup requests read and write access to repository contents, issues, and pull requests. The setup guide says draft PRs do not start reviews and that Data Residency tenants with
*.ghe.comhostnames are not supported. Check the current Code Review setup guide for current behavior and requirements. - Check where code goes: Ultrareview uploads bundled repository state to a remote sandbox. Confirm that this fits your organization’s hosting, retention, and data-handling requirements before use.
- Compare review evidence, not just volume: Ask whether findings include enough explanation and context to validate the issue, and whether you can audit candidates that were rejected or deduplicated.
- Measure your own workload: If you are deciding between tools, run both on representative changes under consistent conditions, then have reviewers classify valid defects, duplicates, and false positives. Record review time and cost alongside findings.
- Recheck volatile details: Product names, plan eligibility, pricing, model lineup, repository support, and privacy controls can change. Confirm them in each vendor’s current documentation.
What the comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Dromeas’s report is a useful example of how two review workflows may produce different outputs on the same pull request. It does not show that Dromeas will routinely find more actionable bugs, or that ultrareview is less effective. The decision depends on your repository, integration and privacy requirements, the auditability of each workflow, and how well its findings hold up in your team’s review.
