Salesforce developers can adapt Claude Code through the official Salesforce Development plugin, which bundles Salesforce-specific skills, MCP servers, agents, hooks, commands and related tools. The phrase “Claude Code Mods” is not established in Salesforce’s documentation as the name of a distinct feature; here, “mods” means these documented customization mechanisms.
What Salesforce developers can customize
The Salesforce Development plugin detects Salesforce DX project and connected-org context, and can use Salesforce CLI and Salesforce-hosted MCP services. It is a bundle of tools rather than a single switch that changes the agent. Salesforce describes its approach as using open standards such as Agent Skills and MCP.
| Mechanism | What it provides | How it is triggered or used |
|---|---|---|
| Skills | Reusable Salesforce instructions and assets, including patterns for Apex, Flow and Lightning Web Components. | Claude Code reads skill descriptions first and loads full instructions when a task matches. |
| MCP servers | Connections that expose context, tools or services, such as Salesforce metadata expertise or language-server capabilities. | Claude Code uses connected servers when a task calls for their context or tools. |
| Hooks | Event-triggered shell actions that can automate checks around agent activity. | A configured event, such as editing an Agent Script file, triggers the action. |
| Agents and commands | Specialized workflows and callable actions included in the plugin bundle. | Available through the plugin; Salesforce says plugin recommendations require developer review and do not install automatically. |
| Project context | Project-specific conventions that help shape generated work. | Some generated Multi-Framework projects include a root-level AGENT.md; do not assume every Salesforce DX project has one. |
What you need before installing
Salesforce’s installation page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists these current minimums and entitlement requirements. Check the linked guidance again when installing because versions and licensing can change.

#1 Best Overall
Install the Salesforce Development plugin
- Install Claude Code and complete its setup and authentication using Anthropic’s current instructions.
- Install a current Node.js LTS release, Salesforce CLI and Python 3.8 or later. Confirm that your Salesforce account has the required entitlement.
- Install the official marketplace plugin named
salesforce-development@claude-plugins-official. - Open Claude Code from the Salesforce DX project directory, then run
/pluginto check that the plugin is installed.
Salesforce’s installation guide provides the current installation steps and prerequisites.
Check project and org readiness first
Start Claude Code from the Salesforce DX project you intend to work on so it can use the project context. Then use the plugin’s readiness workflow before asking it to change files or interact with an org. Salesforce’s usage guide suggests these exact prompts:
Rank #2
- “Am I ready for development?”
- “Validate that I can deploy to this org.”
These checks help establish whether the project and connected-org setup are ready for the requested work; they are not a substitute for reviewing the changes or deployment target yourself. See Salesforce’s plugin usage guide.
Give a specific task and review proposed changes
State the object, fields, behavior and intended destination when possible. For example, Salesforce’s guide demonstrates: “Generate a custom object Project__c with fields for Name, Status, Due Date, and Owner.” Other documented examples include generating metadata, writing an Apex test and deploying changes to a sandbox.
Rank #3
- Describe the change and the expected result, including the relevant Salesforce project or sandbox.
- Ask Claude Code to show the files or actions it proposes before applying changes.
- Review generated metadata, code and tests for correctness and project conventions.
- Before approving an org or deployment action, verify the connected org and the target environment.
The plugin can help with Salesforce workflows, but neither its context detection nor its automation guarantees that generated code, metadata or deployments are correct.
Choose the right customization mechanism
Use skills for reusable Salesforce guidance
Skills are the best fit when you want repeated Salesforce-specific instructions or assets applied to matching tasks. Because Claude Code starts with skill descriptions and loads the complete instructions when relevant, a skill can add focused guidance without requiring every prompt to repeat it.
Use MCP for connected context and tools
The core Salesforce plugin automatically configures salesforce-api-context, salesforce-metadata-experts and salesforce-lsp. MCP servers are integrations, not reusable instruction files: they provide access to context, tools or services. Other MCP servers are not included in the core installation.
Salesforce’s Headless 360 MCP Server is a separate beta that requires org activation and OAuth configuration. Do not assume it is enabled just because the plugin is installed. Salesforce’s plugin overview describes the included integrations and available extensions.
Best Value
Use hooks for event-based checks
Hooks run shell actions in response to configured events. Salesforce examples include detecting Salesforce DX context, checking Agent Script syntax after .agent files change, and validating metadata deployments. They can automate a check at a useful point in the workflow, but they do not certify that the overall result is safe or correct. Review any hook’s behavior before enabling it, particularly when it can execute shell commands or affect org workflows.
Use agents, commands and project instructions for workflow shape
The plugin includes agents and commands for specialized tasks. It can also recommend specialized plugins based on project signals, task prompts or manual discovery. Recommendations are not automatic installations: inspect a suggested plugin and choose whether to install it.
Project instructions can document local conventions. Salesforce says generated Multi-Framework projects contain an AGENT.md file at the project root, but that does not mean a typical Salesforce DX project already includes one. Add or maintain project guidance only when it reflects conventions your team wants Claude Code to follow.

Review CLI permissions and integrations deliberately
Claude Code’s command-line reference documents configuration for MCP, model selection, and allowed or disallowed tools. Those are environment-level choices, not guarantees provided by the Salesforce plugin. Review what a setting permits before using it in a work project, especially when tools can run shell commands or reach a connected org. Anthropic documents the available options in its CLI reference.
