To claim a business on Yelp, visit biz.yelp.com/claim, search for the business, select its existing page if one appears, then create a Yelp for Business account and complete the verification steps shown. If no page appears, use Yelp’s option to add the business. Claiming is free and does not enroll the business in paid advertising.
Claim an existing Yelp page or add a missing business
Start by searching rather than creating a new page. If Yelp already has a listing for the business, claim that page; add a business only if the search does not return its existing listing. This helps avoid creating a duplicate.
- Open Yelp’s business claim page and enter the business name.
- If the existing listing appears, select it and continue with the claim prompts. If it does not appear, choose “Add to Yelp for free” and submit the basic business details requested.
- Create a Yelp for Business account using an email address that the owner or representative checks regularly.
- Complete the verification prompt. Yelp’s guide describes verification by a code sent by email, text, or a call to the phone number listed on the page. Use the options presented in the live flow, since the available methods can vary.
- After verification, complete the profile and review the business information so it is ready to manage.
Verify the business and allow time for confirmation
Yelp says it will notify the business after verification, which may take a few business days. That is an estimate from Yelp’s June 6, 2024 guide, not a guaranteed turnaround time. Keep access to the email address and phone number associated with the listing while completing the process.

What claiming costs—and what it does not do
Claiming is free. Yelp defines a claimed page as one claimed by the business owner or representative through its verification process. Claiming alone does not make the business a Yelp advertiser. Yelp says a business must claim its page to advertise with Yelp, but advertising is a separate, optional decision.

What you can manage after claiming
Yelp lists these capabilities for claimed pages:
- Respond to reviews through direct messages or public comments.
- Reply to customer messages and quote requests.
- Track page views and customer leads.
- Upload and manage photos.
- Edit business details, including the address, phone number, opening hours, and website.
Keep the claimed page active
Yelp says a page may later appear as unclaimed after a period of inactivity, but its support article does not give a fixed time interval. Check the account periodically and keep business information current.
