Cisco appointed Martin Lund executive vice president of its Common Hardware Group on March 25, 2024, putting him in charge of a team that develops silicon, systems and optics for the company’s networking products. He reported to CEO Chuck Robbins. Lund left Cisco after two years, according to Robbins on April 27, 2026; Cisco then moved the group into its Product Organization, led by Jeetu Patel.
Who is Martin Lund?
Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins described Lund’s pre-Cisco roles as corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Azure for Operators, CEO of Metaswitch Networks before Microsoft acquired it, and 12 years at Broadcom, where Lund helped build its Network Switching business. Robbins also cited Lund’s work on Azure-based solutions for public and private 5G, packet core, voice and AI operations. Network World additionally reported that Lund held leadership positions at Cadence Design Systems and Intel.
In Cisco’s March 25, 2024 announcement, Robbins called Lund “an industry veteran with decades of experience driving innovation and business growth in the networking and semiconductor industries.”

The group developed silicon, hardware systems and optics used across Cisco’s switching, routing, optical, cable access and IoT portfolios. Cisco also said it supplied components and white-box products directly to customers. Network World’s contemporaneous account described the engineering work behind that remit, including ASIC, system and board design; circuit-board layout; hardware automation, validation and testing; signal integrity; and power design.

That scope helps explain the relevance of Lund’s cited networking and semiconductor experience: the role covered foundational technology and engineering across multiple product lines, rather than one networking product category.
How did Lund’s appointment relate to Eyal Dagan?
Dagan had led the Common Hardware Group since 2020. When Lund joined in 2024, Dagan moved to the role of executive vice president, Strategic Projects. Robbins said Lund and Dagan had a 20-year professional relationship. In 2009, Lund, then senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s Network Switching business, helped acquire Dune Networks, which Dagan co-founded. Cisco did not say that their history determined its hiring decision.

Does Martin Lund still work at Cisco?
No. On April 27, 2026, Robbins said Lund had decided to leave Cisco after two years. Cisco also moved the Common Hardware Group into the Product Organization led by Jeetu Patel. That update supersedes the 2024 announcement naming Lund as the group’s leader.
Robbins credited the team with introducing new Silicon One chips and driving triple-digit AI growth in his 2026 retrospective. Those are company-reported claims about the team’s work, not evidence that Lund remains at Cisco.
