Circle has not announced that it hired DJ Khaled. According to Decrypt’s October 6, 2026 report, the official USDC account posted a photo of Khaled in a Chelsea shirt reading “USDC by Circle.” CEO Jeremy Allaire then welcomed him to “team USDC.” Neither post announced a sponsorship, an ambassador role or a payment. The reaction came from the crypto community’s memory of Khaled’s earlier token promotion, which led to an SEC settlement.
What the posts said
Decrypt reports that the USDC account shared the image with the caption “Another one.” About four hours later, Allaire reposted it with: “DJ Khaled welcome to team USDC.” Decrypt calls the exchange cheeky. The wording here comes from Decrypt’s report, not from the original posts, which we did not open directly.
Did Circle hire DJ Khaled to promote USDC?
Nothing public says so. The posts are a greeting and a branded photo. They don’t mention a contract, a title or compensation. That is not proof that no private arrangement exists, and Circle or Khaled could clarify at any time. For now, “welcome to team USDC” is best read as what it literally says, not as a confirmed endorsement deal.

Decrypt reports that critics immediately recalled Khaled’s promotion of Centra Tech’s CTR token in 2017. They pointed to his later settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The concern is trust: a celebrity attached to a stablecoin brand, with no stated disclosure, reminds people of a case about undisclosed pay.

The 2018 SEC settlement, in plain terms
The SEC’s April 3, 2018 order is the primary record. It concerns Khaled’s paid promotion of Centra Tech’s CTR tokens without disclosing that he was compensated.
| Figure | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Payment for the promotional post | $50,000 | U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, 2018 order |
| Total settlement payments | More than $150,000 | Decrypt, 2026 (a reported total, not a figure taken from the order) |
Was Khaled charged with fraud?
No. The action against Khaled concerned failing to disclose payment for a promotion, and Decrypt notes this explicitly. Allegations of fraud and their outcomes involved Centra’s founders, and they are a separate matter. Don’t merge the two when you read the backlash.

Where Chelsea fits
Decrypt says Chelsea is Circle’s front-of-shirt partner. It also says Khaled appeared at the club through a separate Roc Nation-related announcement in May. That explains why the image looks plausible, but it is context from the article. It doesn’t show why the image was made, and it isn’t evidence of a Circle–Khaled contract.

What would settle the question
- A statement from Circle or Khaled describing the relationship, if any.
- Posts that carry a clear paid-partnership or sponsorship disclosure.
- Any announcement tying Khaled’s Chelsea appearances to Circle’s club sponsorship.
Until then, the facts are limited to the two posts, the reaction and the 2018 record. The story is very recent, so details may change.
