Press Search + V or Launcher + V on your Chromebook to open the clipboard menu. Select a copied item and press Enter to paste it. Google says the clipboard can hold up to five items.
Open the Chromebook clipboard menu
- Copy text or another selected item with Ctrl + C. Repeat to collect more items; Google documents up to five items in the clipboard. See Google’s Chromebook keyboard shortcuts.
- Move to the place where you want to paste, then press Search + V or Launcher + V.
- Choose an item from the menu and press Enter. You can navigate the menu with Tab or the arrow keys.
Use the standard paste shortcuts
- Ctrl + V: Paste the current clipboard item.
- Ctrl + Shift + V: Paste without formatting, where the app supports this shortcut.
Access the clipboard with the touchscreen
Open the Chromebook’s on-screen keyboard, tap the destination where you want to paste, then tap Clipboard and choose an item. To remove an item from this menu, long-press it and tap Delete. Google’s on-screen keyboard instructions cover this touch-based route.
Use the right key on your keyboard
Chromebook keyboards may label the key as either Search or Launcher. With an external Windows or Mac keyboard, use the Windows or Command key in place of Search for these shortcuts. Key labels and layouts can vary; Google describes its shortcut guidance as intended for US customers using a standard English QWERTY keyboard, while noting that international keyboard users can also follow it. Chromebook screenshots and screen recordings are automatically copied to the clipboard, according to Google’s screen-capture instructions. Use Ctrl + V to paste the current clipboard item, or open the clipboard menu with Search + V or Launcher + V and select an available capture.
