The Christopher Lloyd film is 88, a 2015 revenge thriller directed by April Mullen. Lloyd plays Cyrus, but the available descriptions point to a story split across two timelines—not a movie about characters literally traveling through time.

88 follows Gwen, played by Katharine Isabelle, after she comes to in a roadside diner with no memory of how she arrived. The story centers on her violent search for the person responsible for her lover’s death. Millennium Media describes the film as action; Apple TV categorizes it as thriller/action. Lloyd plays Cyrus. That makes the film a less familiar entry in his screen work for viewers who primarily associate him with Doc Brown in Back to the Future, but his role here belongs to a revenge thriller rather than a science-fiction time-travel story.
Does 88 involve time travel?
Not according to the descriptions available. Apple TV says the film is divided between two timelines that blur reality and fiction. That supports calling its structure fractured or dual-timeline, but it does not establish that characters travel through time. Calling it a time-travel movie—or a science-fiction film—would go beyond what the official descriptions say.

The distinction matters: a story can shift between timelines without depicting time travel as a plot mechanism. In 88, the confirmed hook is the way the two timelines complicate Gwen’s search and the line between reality and fiction. Apple TV’s listing gives the two-timeline description, identifies Lloyd as Cyrus and lists the film’s runtime as 1 hour 28 minutes.

88 was released in 2015. Millennium Media lists it as an action film, while Apple TV uses thriller/action; neither classification makes it a confirmed science-fiction title. AOL reported on September 27, 2026, that it did not reach U.S. theaters and instead arrived on U.S. home video as a DVD release. That theatrical-release detail comes from a secondary report, not the distributor’s film listing.
