Choose Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 if you need 5G; choose between phones with either chip by their actual price and features if 4G is enough. Qualcomm’s platform supports 5G, while MediaTek’s Helio G99 is a 4G chipset. Third-party benchmark aggregates give the Snapdragon an edge in some tests, but not every workload, and they do not establish how two specific phones will perform.
Specifications at a glance
| Specification | Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 | MediaTek Helio G99 |
|---|---|---|
| Cellular connectivity | Snapdragon X61 5G modem-RF platform; Qualcomm lists peak download speeds up to 2.5 Gbps and upload speeds up to 900 Mbps. | 4G platform with integrated Cat-13 LTE. |
| CPU | 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPU, listed up to 2.3 GHz; a 2.2 GHz version is also available. The phone’s chipset version determines its maximum. | Two Cortex-A76 cores up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz. |
| Manufacturing process | 4 nm, according to Qualcomm. | TSMC N6, a 6 nm-class process, according to MediaTek. |
| Graphics | Qualcomm Adreno; NanoReview identifies the GPU as Adreno 613. | Mali-G57 MC2, according to MediaTek. |
| Memory and storage support | UFS 3.1 storage support and memory speed up to 2133 MHz, according to Qualcomm. The phone maker determines the installed configuration. | LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage; MediaTek lists a maximum memory frequency of 4266 Mbps. |
| Display and camera capabilities | Qualcomm lists support for FHD+ displays at up to 120 fps and camera features including electronic image stabilization (EIS) and hardware motion-compensated temporal filtering (MCTF). | MediaTek lists display support up to 120 Hz and camera capability up to 108 MP. |
These are platform capabilities, not promises that every phone using a chipset includes the fastest supported memory, display refresh rate, camera resolution, or all listed camera features. Phone makers choose components and configurations.
How the benchmark results compare
NanoReview’s live comparison reports the following aggregate results. They are third-party figures, not controlled tests of two otherwise identical phones.

NanoReview’s comparison draws on unequal sample counts. Its AnTuTu 11 figures use 17 Snapdragon tests and 313 G99 tests; Geekbench 6 uses 14 and 82 tests, respectively. For PCMark 3.0, the comparison lists 8 Snapdragon phone models and 37 G99 phone models. These aggregates can change as samples accrue, and the page does not state years for the benchmark tables. Treat the scores as directional evidence, not guaranteed results for a particular handset.
Does either chipset win for gaming?
The available comparison does not establish a general gaming winner. NanoReview reports game frame rates for a G99 phone but does not provide matching Snapdragon game results in that table, so the two sides cannot be compared fairly from those figures.

Gaming performance also depends on the specific phone’s cooling, firmware, memory configuration, display resolution, and game settings. A GPU name or a small difference in an aggregate benchmark is not enough to predict sustained frame rates in a particular game.

What the process size and CPU specs do—and do not—tell you
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is listed as a 4 nm platform; MediaTek describes the Helio G99 as using TSMC N6, a 6 nm-class process. Those labels alone do not prove that a Snapdragon phone will last longer on a charge. Battery life depends on the complete handset, including its battery capacity, display, radio conditions, software, and workload.

Qualcomm lists the Snapdragon’s Kryo CPU at up to 2.3 GHz, with a 2.2 GHz version also available. MediaTek specifies the G99’s core arrangement and maximum speeds: two Cortex-A76 cores up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz. Clock speed and core counts are useful specifications, but they do not replace comparisons of complete phones under the same workloads.

Choose a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 phone when 5G is a requirement
It is the only one of these two platforms with 5G capability. Before buying, check that the exact phone supports the 5G bands used by your carrier and region; chipset-level 5G support by itself does not confirm local compatibility.
For a 4G phone, compare the exact models
If 5G is not important, the benchmark results do not justify choosing every Helio G99 phone over every Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 phone, or vice versa. Compare the handsets’ prices, RAM and storage, screen, battery, software support, and network configuration. These can have a larger practical effect on value and day-to-day experience than the chipset name alone.
