There is no design-specific test here that establishes a single best VPN for graphic designers. The available comparisons cover general VPN performance, not Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, cloud libraries, or creative-file uploads. Treat the services below as candidates to evaluate against your own workflow—not as proven winners for design work.
What a VPN can—and cannot—do for design work
A VPN encrypts your connection between your device and a VPN server, then routes internet traffic through that server. That can be useful when you want an encrypted connection on an untrusted network or need a VPN for remote-work privacy. It does not, by itself, make creative software faster or guarantee access to a particular design app or cloud service.
Encryption and the extra routing can reduce connection speed. ExpressVPN explains this trade-off in its slow-speed troubleshooting guidance. A VPN may also change the apparent location of your connection, which can affect how some websites respond. The evidence available does not establish design-app compatibility or upload performance for any provider.

TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 general VPN roundup names NordVPN its overall pick based on its own broad testing and also discusses Proton VPN and ExpressVPN. That judgment is not a graphic-design-specific result. Use the roundup as a starting point for a shortlist, then check the services against your devices, privacy requirements, and actual workload.

NordVPN describes an independent 2026 VPN performance test that assessed speed, leak protection, website accessibility, feature reliability, and connection time. In NordVPN’s account, ProtonVPN recorded the test’s fastest latency on its best route at 183 ms, and NordVPN received the only Platinum rating. These are results as presented by NordVPN; they are not measurements of creative-app responsiveness or large-file transfers.
How to compare a VPN for your workflow
Nearby-server speed and consistency
Start with a server geographically close to you, then check whether performance stays consistent during the times you normally work. A single fast result may not reflect the connection you will get every day. This is practical guidance based on general VPN speed considerations, not a design-workflow test result.

Uploads and collaboration
If your work includes large exports, shared libraries, or frequent handoffs, test upload performance—not just download speed—using your usual files and cloud services. Do this before a deadline or a time-sensitive collaboration. No cited comparison here measured creative-file uploads.

Repeated disconnects can interrupt cloud syncing or a call even when a speed test looks good. Check how easily the service reconnects and whether you can change protocols. ExpressVPN recommends its Automatic protocol setting when troubleshooting slow speeds; Proton VPN says users can try different protocols to seek better performance. These are each provider’s own support statements, not a head-to-head finding.

Privacy, devices, and usability
Read each provider’s privacy and logging explanations rather than assuming every VPN handles data the same way. Confirm that the service supports the operating systems and devices you use, and that its app is straightforward to connect and troubleshoot. Proton VPN describes its security and privacy features on its features page. Provider descriptions are claims about their own services, not independent proof of comparative privacy.

Repeat at the time of day you expect to work. Keep the VPN only if the privacy or remote-work benefit is worth any speed or stability trade-off you observe.
Which one should you choose?
For a starting shortlist, compare NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN as general-purpose services. TechRadar’s broad roundup favors NordVPN overall, while NordVPN’s account of a 2026 test reports a latency result for ProtonVPN; neither establishes a winner for graphic design. The right choice depends on your location, devices, privacy priorities, connection reliability, and the results of testing your own uploads and apps.
