Compare China Construction Bank (CCB) with other Chinese bank stocks on the same reporting period and basis—not by headline yield or one capital ratio alone. Start with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Bank of China (BOC) as large-bank peers, then compare profitability, asset quality, capital, dividends, valuation and business mix. CCB’s published 2025 figures provide a useful reference point, but they do not establish that it leads its peers.

Choose peers that answer the question you have

ICBC and BOC are practical starting points for a large-bank comparison, not an exhaustive list of relevant Chinese banks. Add banks when their size, customer mix, geography or lending exposures make them useful comparators for your investment question. A bank with a different business mix may be informative, but it should not be treated as a like-for-like substitute without explaining the difference.

Bank Official reporting materials identified How to use them
China Construction Bank (CCB) Its investor-relations listing shows a 2026 half-year report dated 2026-08-28 and 2025 annual reports for A- and H-share reporting. CCB investor relations Use reports for a consistent reporting basis; consult the relevant A- or H-share market data separately when comparing prices or yields.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Its financial-reports page lists a 2026 interim report dated 2026-09-24 and an interim results announcement dated 2026-08-28, as well as its 2025 annual report. ICBC financial reports Match the report period to CCB’s before comparing financial ratios.
Bank of China (BOC) Its financial-reports page lists 2026 interim and 2025 annual materials. BOC financial reports Check the selected document’s period and reporting basis before using a figure alongside CCB’s.

For CCB’s financial-report access guidance, see its official finance page. A directory listing establishes where and when materials are listed; it does not by itself make metrics from different reporting periods comparable.

Compare the financial dimensions that drive a bank stock

Dimension What to compare Why the comparison needs care
Earnings and profitability Net interest margin (NIM), net profit trend and return on equity (ROE). Use matching periods and distinguish group figures from bank-only figures. Look at earnings direction as well as the latest reported level.
Asset quality Non-performing loan (NPL) ratio, overdue or classified loans where disclosed, allowance coverage, credit-cost trends and sector concentrations. Definitions, write-offs, restructurings and borrower mix can change what a headline NPL ratio captures. Read the notes and risk disclosures rather than treating one ratio as a complete measure.
Capital and resilience Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1), Tier 1 and total capital ratios, alongside leverage and liquidity disclosures. Align the reporting date and applicable capital rules. A higher figure in isolation does not prove a bank is safer or better; consider the bank’s risk profile and the basis used to calculate it.
Shareholder returns Declared cash dividend per share, payout ratio and dividend yield. Separate proposed distributions from approved ones. Yield depends on a share price and date, so a dividend amount alone is not a current yield.
Valuation Price-to-book (P/B) and any other valuation measure relevant to your analysis. Align share class, currency, market date and book-value basis. Do not compare market prices or valuation ratios without specifying which shares and dates they use.
Business mix and exposure Retail and corporate lending, geographic footprint, fee businesses, policy-linked lending and concentrations. Use the mix to understand possible earnings and risk drivers, not as a quality ranking by itself.

Read earnings and funding together

NIM shows the spread between interest earned on assets and interest paid on funding, while net profit and ROE show different aspects of the resulting earnings and use of equity. Compare their direction across matching periods. A change in one measure does not explain the whole result: the accompanying reporting and disclosures are needed to understand what is driving it.

Look beyond the headline NPL ratio

Pair the NPL ratio with allowance coverage and credit-cost trends, then check disclosures about overdue or classified loans and concentrated borrower or sector exposures. This helps avoid treating a single reported ratio as a complete view of potential credit risk. Keep in mind that banks’ definitions and loan treatments can affect direct comparability.

Keep capital measures distinct

CET1, Tier 1 and total capital are related but distinct measures. Compare all three on a consistent date and under a comparable reporting framework where possible; add leverage and liquidity disclosures for context. A ratio should be interpreted alongside the risks the bank is carrying, rather than as a stand-alone score.

Separate a dividend from its yield

A declared dividend is a distribution; yield is that distribution relative to a share price at a specified date. For a useful comparison, record whether each dividend is proposed or approved, the amount and its basis, the corresponding share class, and the price date used for the yield. Do not treat a past payout ratio as a promise of future distributions.

Use share-class-specific market data

Keep A-share and H-share comparisons distinct when using price, return, valuation, trading currency or dividend yield. A bank’s financial results may be reported at group level, but its traded shares can have different prices and currencies. Any cross-bank market comparison should identify the relevant share class and use the same market date.

What CCB’s published 2025 figures establish

Capital at 2025 year-end

CCB reported a 19.69% total capital ratio, a 15.47% Tier 1 ratio and a 14.63% CET1 ratio at 2025 year-end. Its annual report says the ratios were calculated under the Rules on Capital Management of Commercial Banks and complied with regulatory requirements. These are CCB figures for that reporting date, not evidence of a lead over ICBC, BOC or other banks; that conclusion would require peer ratios for the same period on a comparable basis. See CCB’s 2025 Annual Report, A-share/HKEX filing.

Combined 2025 cash dividend

CCB reported a combined 2025 cash dividend of RMB 3.887 per ten shares, including tax, with an aggregate amount of approximately RMB 101,684 million. The reported distribution equalled 30% of group net profit attributable to equity shareholders; the final dividend portion was subject to shareholder approval in the report. This is a historical distribution, not a forecast or a current yield. See CCB’s 2025 Annual Report, H-share filing.

A practical method for building a like-for-like comparison

  1. Set the peer group. Begin with CCB, ICBC and BOC if the aim is a large-bank comparison. Add other listed banks only when their inclusion answers a specific question about scale, exposure or business mix.
  2. Choose one reporting period. Use the same year-end or interim period for each bank. Do not put CCB’s full-year figure beside a peer’s interim figure and present the result as a direct comparison.
  3. Record the basis for every financial metric. Note the period, currency and unit, whether the figure is group or bank-only, the source report and any relevant definition or calculation basis.
  4. Gather the same core measures. Collect NIM, net profit trend and ROE; asset-quality measures; CET1, Tier 1 and total capital; and declared dividends and payout ratios. Read disclosures on borrower and sector mix to add context.
  5. Build market comparisons separately. For each valuation, return or yield calculation, specify the A- or H-share, currency, market-price date and book-value or dividend basis. Use the same date across peers.
  6. Interpret the pattern, not one standout number. Weigh profitability against credit quality and capital, then consider business mix and shareholder returns. Explain where definitions or exposures make the comparison less direct.

Why a numeric league table would mislead without updated inputs

The official issuer pages identify 2026 interim materials for CCB, ICBC and BOC, but the figures presented here do not provide a complete, same-period set of peer metrics or dated market prices. There is therefore no sound basis here for publishing current peer rankings, P/B comparisons or dividend yields. Before making a comparative call, use the matching reports and calculate market measures from prices observed on the same date for the relevant share classes.
