China Construction Bank (CCB) has two ordinary-share listings: Hong Kong H-shares, code 939 (also shown as 00939), and Shanghai A-shares, code 601939. A CCB “after-hours” price is not meaningful without its exchange, currency, timestamp, and quote type. For Hong Kong, a value shown between 4:00 and the randomly determined 4:08–4:10 p.m. close may be part of the official closing auction—not an overnight move. No verified live quote or specific current move is available here, so this guide explains how to interpret a displayed price without inventing one.
Which China Construction Bank share price are you looking at?
CCB’s H-shares trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) under 939; the bank’s 2025 half-year report also identifies the code as 00939. Its A-shares trade on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) under 601939. These are distinct exchange listings, not interchangeable labels for one quote. CCB’s stock information and its 2025 half-year report identify the listings.
Before interpreting a number, establish which listing it represents and record the quote currency and timestamp. A nominal price in Hong Kong and one in Shanghai cannot be compared as if they were contemporaneous prices in the same market. Also check whether the screen shows a last trade, an auction indication, or the final closing price.
What “after-hours” can mean for CCB
For HKEX-listed H-shares, the official schedule includes a closing auction after continuous trading ends at 4:00 p.m. Hong Kong time. On a full trading day, the auction ends at a randomly determined time between 4:08 and 4:10 p.m. A price changing in that interval may therefore reflect the closing process, rather than trading after the exchange’s session. HKEX’s securities trading-mechanism schedule describes the session.
#1 Best Overall
HKEX says its Closing Auction Session is designed to enable execution at securities’ closing prices. Its normal closing price is the median of five nominal prices in the last minute of continuous trading. The auction has reference-price fixing, order-input, no-cancellation, and random-closing stages. An auction indication is not necessarily the final matched close; a later value on a data service may also reflect that provider’s posting convention. See HKEX’s Closing Auction Session FAQ.
Calling a displayed value “after-hours” does not establish that CCB shares traded in a separate extended-hours session. The official HKEX mechanics established here are the closing auction. For any later display, verify the data provider’s definition and, where possible, the relevant exchange record.

How Hong Kong and Shanghai trading hours differ
Hong Kong H-shares: 939 / 00939
On a normal full trading day, HKEX lists pre-opening from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.; morning continuous trading from 9:30 a.m. to noon; an extended morning session from noon to 1:00 p.m.; afternoon continuous trading from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and the closing auction from 4:00 p.m. until a random close between 4:08 and 4:10 p.m. All times are Hong Kong time. Half-days and holiday arrangements can differ, so check the schedule for the specific date.

The HKEX Stock Connect schedule lists the SSE opening call auction from 9:15 to 9:25 a.m., continuous trading from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 2:57 p.m., and the closing call auction from 2:57 to 3:00 p.m. Shanghai time. The cited timetable is in HKEX’s Stock Connect trading-hours information. Schedules can change under SSE rules; confirm the applicable exchange calendar and timetable for the date in question.
Because the two listings have different sessions and closing processes, apparent differences between screen values can arise from their timing, quote basis, or currency. That possibility does not establish that a particular price was an after-hours trade or explain a specific movement.
How to check a CCB price or move
- Identify the listing. Determine whether the quote is for HKEX 939/00939 or SSE 601939.
- Capture the quote details. Record the data source, timestamp and time zone, currency, and whether the figure is a last trade, indicative auction price, or closing price. Do not infer missing details.
- Check the venue’s session. Match the timestamp to the official schedule for that exchange and date. In Hong Kong, distinguish continuous trading from the closing auction; in Shanghai, distinguish continuous trading from the closing call auction.
- Compare like with like. Compare the quote with the previous close for the same listing and on the same price basis. Do not treat the two markets’ nominal prices as directly comparable without accounting for currency and timing.
- Look for a documented cause. Check CCB’s investor-relations site for announcements, results, presentations, and webcasts before attributing a move to company news or fundamentals.
- Verify post-close displays. If a service labels a value “after-hours,” identify the provider and its quote convention. A label alone does not establish that an exchange trade occurred after the regular session.
What a price move does—and does not—tell you
A price change by itself does not identify its cause. To connect a move to CCB’s business, an investor needs a dated company disclosure or results information that plausibly relates to the timing and market response. CCB describes activities including corporate finance, personal finance, treasury, and asset management, and its investor-relations pages provide company materials. Those business descriptions and the bank’s scale do not explain a daily share-price change on their own.
Rank #4
CCB reported 785 million personal customers, 12.73 million corporate customers, 378,344 staff members, and 14,614 operating entities at end-2025. Its investor-relations page also gives an approximately US$265,545 million market capitalization at end-2025. These are dated scale figures, not current quote data or evidence of the cause of a particular move.
What is not established by a screen label
Without a timestamped quote tied to the correct code, venue, currency, and session, it is not possible to verify a current CCB price, a specific percentage move, a current post-close trade, or the reason for a move. The meaning of an “after-hours” display depends on its provider and must be checked against that provider’s convention and the relevant exchange record.
